No it's not balayage from the picture you've posted.

HJWT · 28/02/2019 19:46

@rosesareredvioletsareblu one and a toner x

RedLipClassic · 28/02/2019 19:48

Yep, I would say that is balayage. Next time tell her you want it more rooty so she starts further down.

hastingsmua1 · 28/02/2019 20:21

It might have been done using a free handed highlighting technique but I don’t think it looks like a balayage in the popular sense. It looks like a mediocre skilled stylist did this.

I think balayage should be more softer and more blended like pictures posted in this thread. The ends should be lighter than the roots, and the highlighted areas near your roots shouldn’t be lighter than the ends as it gives a reverse gradient where the ends look darker instead.

If done well, the tones should just melt together. There shouldn’t be a stark contrast like you have near your roots. I think the highlights are a bit too thin too.

Hard to tell from small photo but I’d say it is. You can also have ombre balayage where the colour starts further down and gets more extreme towards the bottom. Pinterest is helpful

If you curl the ends it will look better and more broken up on the ends.

winterisstillcoming · 28/02/2019 21:18

It is a balayage. It will grow out beautifully and you won't need to have it redone for a while if you don't want to.

Scattyhattie · 01/03/2019 15:15

Looks nice & how I want my balayage as allows more low maintenance regrowth as highlights leave a noticeable root line.

Its a technique of application so guess the outcome can vary depending on what look you want to achieve from colour going mid to ends to more like traditional highlights nearer roots.

Curling makes it look different too, on Pinterest nearly all balayage pics are curled but those that show it whilst straight look much like yours.

I can see why you may not be happy with yours - did you go to hairdresser with a picture or did you explain them? I always find having a picture what I want is best.

itsbetterthanabox · 01/03/2019 23:01

Yup balayage
Did you want ombré?
You could have a root stretch to make it look more ombré.
