Flattering gym wear - have put on weight :-(

I don't fit in to my gym wear, which is then a vicious circle as I put on more weight etc. What is flattering?

It is a big problem for me too.

I want to lose weight but all the gym gear is aimed at thinner, fitter people.

Someone could corner the market.

ChiaraMontague · 27/02/2019 18:42

I wear high waisted capri leggings and black tees, capris from Lululemon (they go up to UK18 in certain styles) or Sturdy by Design (they do a large range of sizes - I think up to 5XL) . I like Primark tees, the Scoop Stretch is my preferred style for the gym - with a sports bra underneath.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 27/02/2019 18:46

It depends what type of activity you are doing - if you're not using machines where you need to wear tight-fitting gym wear, can you wear looser things like jogging bottoms?
I don't know if any gym wear can be flattering seeing as you always end up red-faced, sweaty and wobbly. So for me it's an odd thing to stop you exercising, especially since you're aware that exercise will improve your health, appearance and self esteem?

I have some "fitted" joggers from uniqlo I think. They come up to my belly button to cover the mum tum, Hide the flabby thighs, and have cuffs at ankles which means they look a bit smarter and don't flap about and get in the way. Wear with a normal t shirt.

Quite a few companies do bigger size ranges now. Have a look at Nike on Asos. Asos has their own gym range but they sell the big brands too. A lot of Nike's Plus Size Range is currently on sale so some good deals to be had if you get lucky that your size is still in stock.. Nike's XL is UK 16, 1X is UK 18, 2X is UK 20.

Fabletics do plus sizes and looks good, also some good bits on simply be

WoahThereMama · 27/02/2019 21:47

What size do you need? M&S and Sainsbury’s both do gym leggings and tops in larger sizes.

eightyeightmilesperhour · 28/02/2019 11:28

I really rate the Matalan activewear range.

They come in larger sizes and I love their looser fitting t-shirts

Elsewhere, George at Asda and M&S do great sportswear.

littlepeas · 28/02/2019 13:27

I find LuluLemon leggings the most flattering (they don't dig in and give you rolls) - they are also very functional! They go up to a US14, which I think is a UK18.

Crowdo · 28/02/2019 13:29

What kind of exercise are you planning on doing? Indoors? Outdoors?

lc18479 · 28/02/2019 20:39

High waisted leggings (sports or running tights) and a loose fitting hoodie or top.
Try sports direct

DarwinLoves · 01/03/2019 22:30

I love M&S high waisted leggings, they are great quality.

OrigamiZoo · 01/03/2019 22:46

USA Pro hold you in, flattering, comfy, they are fantastic,

Nacreous · 02/03/2019 08:12

I'm a fan of the USA pro leggings as well. High waisted, and don't make me look like an extruded sausage.

And honestly, I'm a bit overweight and have recently started getting fit - but in clothes I look totally fine, as I carry my weight pretty evenly, so it is really unpleasant for me if I just look totally awful to do exercise and is quite off putting. I don't think that's unusual at all.

TomorrowIsFree · 02/03/2019 19:28

Indoor and outdoor exercise hopefully. Thanks I'll have a look.

amazonianwoman · 02/03/2019 21:45

Any of the USA Pro leggings? Are they quite thick/strong? I hate flimsy thin soft leggings, they're so unflattering

emilybrontescorsett · 02/03/2019 21:48

I was going to say matalan and Nike too.
Seriously I don't think anyone will be looking at what you wear and criticising it. People in there know you are there to shape up/get fitter/lose weight etc.

Nothingunpleasant · 02/03/2019 21:50

USPro, they just fit better. You have to try on as the sizes differ.
