Soooo I saw a lovely pair of black denim dungarees in Toast over the weekend. I'm tempted but at nearly 42 can I get away with them or is age irrelevant? Can adults really look coolish in dungarees??!

I am 5ft 3 and a size 12. I'm just not sure I can pull off the look!! I'd wear both boots and trainers...here's a couple of pictures I love...please let me know what you think. Tia

I would if I wasn't worried I would look like Mr Pickwick Grin at your size i think you will look great.

BubblesBuddy · 26/02/2019 20:19

I think you have to be happy with that slightly “farmer boy” look! Check shirts and boots! I think it suits some people. DDs friends is an actress and she wears them. Slightly bo ho and arty! Hair tied in a headscarf type look!

boredboredboredboredbored · 26/02/2019 20:28

Just googled Mr Pickwick 😂😂😂

I wear them all the time. Don't give a shiny shite whether it's acceptable due to my age. It's not a nappy and a romper suit.

whatsnewchoochoo · 26/02/2019 20:33

Yes, they're so flattering and easy to wear. I have a few pairs and am plus size so they'll look even better on you being slim.
(Ps I'm 40 so no spring chicken)

crunchie12 · 26/02/2019 20:35

I'd love some but can't find them in a 'tall' version. I'm 5ft10 and a size 12. Saw some in Sainsbury's but they were too short

cleanhousewastedlife · 26/02/2019 20:36

I have the toast dungaree dress. It's really nice to wear. Worth a look? I'm pear shaped so it's better for me than the trousers version. I'm same age as you and had a compliment on it from a 20 year old student Grin

lottielady · 26/02/2019 20:36

I have loads.
44 and a —generous— size 14.

Very comfy and I give no fucks.

Quintella · 26/02/2019 20:38

I think you need to have a really flat stomach otherwise you can look pregnant or Pickwicky.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/02/2019 20:41

I'm 40 and I love mine. Wearing them right now in fact. So comfortable!

boredboredboredboredbored · 26/02/2019 20:51

Thanks for the encouragement. Actually looking at them on the Toast website I think they are too baggy. I may try some in a skinny style see how the go. I go the curvy side with a big bottom so not sure they'll fit the hips...off to look at ASOS!

I bought some Lucy and Yak's dungarees last week. They're amazing. I'm 39.

Pinkrach · 27/02/2019 07:09

@crunchie12, next have some tall ones in at the moment- I’ve just bought a pair in a dark wash. I’ve had exactly the same conversation with my friends yesterday about whether they’re considered ‘frumpy’ and we decided that styled right they can look cool so I’m keeping them- I’m 37.

hammeringinmyhead · 27/02/2019 07:19

Yea from me. I loved my maternity dungarees so much I bought non-maternity ones (both ASOS). They are an autumn to spring thing for me though as they look best rolled with trainers - ankle boots are a bit stumpifying (I'm 5ft4 and size 12 with a 30 leg).

user122397743 · 27/02/2019 07:27

I'm 47 and wore them in the 90s! Loved them. Very tempted to get some more but totally different body shape now and fear I may look like back end of a bus Confused

bingohandjob · 27/02/2019 07:32

I love my Lucy and Yak dungarees - I think they look great, every time I wear them a woman will tell me how much she loves them and they are ridiculously comfortable and easy to wear. I'd wear them all day if I could. I really could not give a flying f*ck if they are 'age appropriate' - one of the many, many joys of being in my forties is the confidence it's given me. Get them, I bet you'll look amazing and you'll want to live in them.

JaneR0chester · 27/02/2019 08:26

I'm 43 and about the same height and size. I love dungarees and am constantly on the lookout for more black denim ones! Those Toast ones look lovely.

I've had a great pair of Topshop denim ones but unfortunately they washed out and didn't stay black for very long.

Currently have a pair of thick jersey ones which haven't faded. Anyone got recommendations for denim ones that don't fade??

NC4Now · 27/02/2019 08:28

I’m 42 also. I love my dungarees.

RavenLG · 27/02/2019 08:39

I can’t do dungarees because I’m too short and fat but I love a dungaree dress! As long as the straps are adjustable as they’re always ridiculously long.

fishonabicycle · 27/02/2019 08:52

I really want some now - can you get petite ones? I'm just over 5 foot and a size 6?

olafolaf · 27/02/2019 08:54

I am almost 50 and rock my dungarees!

IJustWantToWearDungarees · 27/02/2019 08:54

I love dungarees - as you can tell from my username! I am 43, and due to medication have just put on a fuck tonne of weight around my middle, so happiest in a 14 whereas previously I would have been a 10. I do worry that I look enormous in them now but they are so comfy I can't give them up. In fact, I may have just bought another pair in the Fat Face sale. 😳

GregoryPeckingDuck · 27/02/2019 08:56

In my experience they only flatter thing people.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 27/02/2019 08:56

*thin

Seahorseshoe · 27/02/2019 09:05

I love dungarees. If they look good on you, don't worry about the age. They don't look good on me, or I would definitely have some (I'm 48)
