Dungarees....yay or nay??!

Soooo I saw a lovely pair of black denim dungarees in Toast over the weekend. I'm tempted but at nearly 42 can I get away with them or is age irrelevant? Can adults really look coolish in dungarees??!

I am 5ft 3 and a size 12. I'm just not sure I can pull off the look!! I'd wear both boots and trainers...here's a couple of pictures I love...please let me know what you think. Tia

Also, a colleague of mine looks amazing in dungarees and she's in her 50s. No age limit IMO.

I'm lusting after the Fatface ones but at 40 quid plus p&p IRS quite a lot of money for me. Like the navy cord ones, only in stock in size 14 - I'm inbetweeners a 12 and a 14 but short and dumpy so I'm worried I'll look ridiculous. However, I'm on the edge of not caring if they fit and are comfortable.

@lotusbell

I have the fat face ones and I live in them .

I'm 5'6 and a size 16 , I'm also nearly 40 so I dress for comfort not for speed these days .

I don't spend a lot on myself so I battled with the cost for ages before I just ordered them anyway . Price per wear has been completely worth to the point of if they are in the wash on a weekend I struggle to find anything else to put on .

I wear mine with converse and a (faux) leather biker jacket and big scarf in the winter and havanvas and a vest in the summer .

Do it , do it , do it Grin

Fat face are generous sizes so go down not up .

Another reason I love em .. my only piece of size 14 clothing that fits Wink

Babygrey7 · 20/03/2019 11:04

My DH has bought some

The other day he wore them with a red t-shirt and he was so not impressed when I called him super-mario

....but am planning to steal them (we are the same size)

Am 47 fwiw

Just wear them!

I’m 61 and I’m wearing black fat face ones today. I love them, so comfy. Wearing them with a long sleeve tee and leopard trainers. I’m 5’7 and size 12. I’m seriously considering a lighter-weight pair for the summer, but I don’t want a ‘fun’ print. Looking at the Lucy and Yak light denim ones.

lotusbell · 20/03/2019 11:24

Thanks for picking out the legible parts of my last post! Grin I think the fatface will swamp me they are on the large size. Found a pair for £15 at New Look so might try them as a gauge first

I'm sorry but they look ridiculous on anyone over 20, even the models. No adult person that I know owns them. However, I feel like, reading this thread, that every woman and her dog (& dh) is wearing them. Is this one of those mn bubbles in reality?!

Ellapaella · 20/03/2019 12:23

I've seen quite a few people wearing them recently although not so many this time last year when mumsnet had started raving about them.
Having tried a pair on myself I can safely say they are not for me. I'm reasonably slim but they just seemed to emphasise my untoned tummy and I found it hard to know what to wear underneath other than just a T-shirt. Also couldn't really see them working with a jacket so would only be good for warming days.
I have seen them on people that look really good in them though.

CountFosco · 20/03/2019 12:47

TNMA wearing them. I think they look fab and comfy but don't have a pair myself, I'm short and so struggle to get these kind of clothes to fit because they are too long in the body (see also jumpsuits and dresses).

Is this one of those mn bubbles in reality?!

Probably, bit like the bubble on the other thread with lots of people saying they wear leggings and dresses. Haven't seen anyone wear that that particular look for ages and I live in the north so not exactly a hotbed of high style but apparently there are loads of people still wearing them.

zippyswife · 27/03/2019 21:02

Thanks for reminding me! My dungas have been hanging up in the wardrobe since the summer. I couldn’t work out how to wear them for winter autumn. I might try them with my DMs tomorrow- but scared I might look a bit Dexys Midnight Runners though.

Kylieemilyj · 27/03/2019 21:05

I love the look of dungarees but never really wore themself because i thought i looked silly. although i did go through a phase of wearing the same pinafore/dungarees loads for a while and i now have some black maternity dungarees i wear occasionally. I think if you like something then wear it, as long as you are happy then f what others think.

Langrish · 27/03/2019 21:05

Age is irrelevant. If you like them, wear them.

Craftycorvid · 27/03/2019 21:12

Just taking style notes, Saywhat. I have several pairs of dungas, a ‘vintage’ 90s pair as well as a dusty pink corduroy pair. I also wear my summer dresses over leggings because milk bottle legs. I’m 52. No actual f*cks given as to whether something is ‘age-aporopriate’ on-trend or whatever. If I enjoy wearing it, I will. Go for it, OP! Grin

Better that than Billy & Johnny.
