It looked amazing on the model online, but on me, I think a bit mumsy?

Should I keep or return?

Is this dress too mumsy for a wedding?

I really like the dress and think it looks lovely on you. My only question would be whether it is a little bit dark for a wedding?

Cla9 · 25/02/2019 16:15

I wouldn’t say it’s mumsy but I’m not sure if it’s right for a wedding! I do like the shape of the dress.

SpiritedLondon · 25/02/2019 16:28

It’s a bit tricky without seeing the full look - hair style makes a lot of difference to the overall look as do shoes. I’m not wild about the shoe / dress combination but quite like the dress. It’s not too dark for a wedding - there is no such thing as too dark as far as I’m concerned but someone will undoubtedly suggest a colourful pashmina and fascinator ( or some such ) which will send it into frumpy territory I think.

legalseagull · 25/02/2019 16:34

I love it but would brighten it up with bright shoes and maybe a little jacket

legalseagull · 25/02/2019 16:35

Or a bright belt around your waist to match the shoes?

Swiftier · 25/02/2019 16:36

It looks like you have a great figure and I think the dress hides it a bit, tbh. With the longer length and long arms I do think it’s a bit frumpy. But agree depends how you wear it, accessories etc.

northernstars · 25/02/2019 17:03

I think the sharp shoulders and cuffs stop it being mumsy and it looks great on you. Is it for a winter or summer wedding?

Shockers · 25/02/2019 17:06

It’s a great shape on your shoulders. I like it on you.

Shockers · 25/02/2019 17:08

It doesn’t need ‘jazzing up’ with anything colourful, in my opinion either.

HundredMilesAnHour · 25/02/2019 17:17

I think the shoes in your photo make it look like a work outfit. Coloured shoes or at least less office-style shoes will help I think. The dress itself is fine but it needs some more wedding-appropriate styling to keep it out of being office wear / frumpy.

You have a great figure but aren't making the most of it in that dress though.

PuzzlingPuzzle · 25/02/2019 17:20

Love the dress, it looks great on you! Definitely no to ‘jazzing it up’ with bright accessories. The only thing I’d change are the shoes- I think a sandal or a closed toe court, depending on the weather, would be much nicer but that’s purely a personal dislike of peep-toes.

inthekitchensink · 25/02/2019 17:25

Ooh I love it! Where’s it from?

Bigonesmallone3 · 25/02/2019 17:26

I'm not a lover..

Jeackyll · 25/02/2019 17:27

He shape is grey on you especially the top half. I really like how the shoulders look. The print looks a bit cheap though, possibly because it looks to be on a very synthetic fabric?

NigellasGuest · 25/02/2019 17:38

Looks great, don't "jazz it up". Not too dark either, especially at this time of year.
Not sure about the shoes though - do you have a pair of elegant black court shoes?

NigellasGuest · 25/02/2019 17:40

And gold jewellery, and a bag in one of the lighter colours in the dress.

SunnySomer · 25/02/2019 17:41

I like it and would wear it without jazzing it up or adding bright colours.

Cheetahssitonfajitas · 25/02/2019 17:41

Yes a bit mumsy tbh

HarrySnotter · 25/02/2019 17:59

Not loving it OP, I think you have such a lovely figure and this is like something my mum would have worn in 1982. Sorry!

Mummyshark2018 · 25/02/2019 18:20

Lovely dress and you look fab in it. To me it's the type of dress I wear to work though , not a wedding, unless it was a very casual wedding?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/02/2019 18:24

I really like it-you look fab and I love for a wedding-

the print is fun and I think your figure looks lovely.

Also-not really the point but I hate "mumsy" used as a negative.
But do I think you look dull and frumpy? Not at all!!

I vote yes Smile

needsleepzzz · 25/02/2019 18:30

I would say different shoes and a statement necklace

peachgreen · 25/02/2019 18:43

It's fine - but if I had your gorgeous figure I'd want more than fine, to be honest!

Floisme · 25/02/2019 18:56

I will never understand why we're so derogatory about mums on a parenting website.
Anyway the dress: I like it but I do think it has something of an office vibe. Normally I'd say it could be dressed it up with jewellery. But in this case, because it already has quite a busy pattern (which I like) I think jewellery might look a bit much. A change of shoes would make a difference but I'm not sure if it's enough.

What's the fabric? If it's a jersey then I'm afraid I'm going to give it the thumbs down but if it's something more occasion-y then I think you could make it work.

GraceMarks · 25/02/2019 19:03

Yes, what fabric is it made from? I do like it, but the picture makes it look a bit like workwear. If it's satin or it has a sheer overskirt, I'd say go for it. If it's cotton or jersey, then maybe it's not "fancy" enough. Unless you're only going to the evening do and it's a more casual affair, in which case it's fine!
