Fabulous wedding in Chicago - outfit needed!

I'm going to a fabulous wedding in Chicago in May but have nothing to wear and I'm short on ideas.

Considerations: it's going to be quite a fancy, society type do though no dress code announced. Weather?! No idea about Chicago in May.
Me: I'm early 40s but pass for younger. Lost weight recently so my existing stuff doesn't fit.
I'm size 6-8, 5'2", pear shaped with a great small waist. Used to pass as hourglass but since the weight loss my tits are like small spaniels ears (I wear 32C but that's probably not right anymore). I no longer have bingo wings and much less cellulite which is a plus.

I really want to treat myself so budget is quite flexible. I don't want to look like a Phase Eight/ Coast clone. I have shopped at Outnet/Net a Porter/Matches fashion before but there are so many outrageous styles on there I can't see anything good.

Ideas anyone?!

Is this slit too revealing? I love the colour.

FleeceDetective · 28/03/2019 11:29

I’ll just bamboozle you a little with links, feel free to say ‘Absolutely not!’ To any/all, its useful to narrow down what you don’t like.

Blue floral?

Mini blue?

FleeceDetective · 28/03/2019 11:36

Green ruching?

Halston?

silk cowl?

Milomonster · 28/03/2019 12:24

Can you get to a Selfridges or Harvey Nics and get a personal shopper to help?
Jospeh has some beautifully cut stuff.

Elllllle · 28/03/2019 12:30

Do you want sleeves? I always wear them if I want to avoid the dreaded "cover-up" eg wrap, pashmina etc

Elllllle · 28/03/2019 12:36

And ... have you looked at reiss? I find their stuff is often cut for shorter women. This yellow dress might suit

Or meghans dress:

Lipsy, Coast and Ted Baker are my go to shops for special occasion dresses.

If it's an evening wedding in the US, a significant percentage of people will be wearing black. I know that goes against UK wedding etiquette, but if you want to play it safe, I suggest a black dress.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 28/03/2019 17:13

I think the yellow Reiss one posted prevously would be perfect.

I know "when in Rome.." and all that, but please don't wear black. It makes me sad to think of it.

yesitis2 · 29/03/2019 15:50

I like the styling of the Reiss one but it's 100% polyester so it would be too sweaty (nearly £200 for polyester Shock)

At least the VW red one is cotton!

Well I bought the Vian in red - it's actually tomatoey red which really suits me and the shape does all the right things in all the right places.Grin
So.....
Shoes and bag?!
I have gold but worry about looking like a Xmas decoration.
I have nude shoes but what colour bag?
I fancy something bright, maybe clashing?
Happy to spend on shoes, if I buy cheap ones I'll just take them off when they start to hurt...
Ideas would be great thanks!

Do wear tights, very sheer nudes.

Not with strappy shoes, no. Not even those pantyhose with the cut out toes.

Yesitis2 · 18/04/2019 10:20

I absolutely love that bag but it's only available on the US website and doesn't ship to UK/EU - however, I found the equivalent on the UK site so I bought that. It has fugly orange tassels so I'm going to cut them off and remove the chain so I carry as a clutch.
Darlee bag Thanks so much for your help Seneca and thanks Foottunnel for the original VW Vian in red suggestion.
I'll wear my nude patent R&B shoes, open square toe with a heel and hidden platform - I think dressing down the shoes but still having that height and a bit of 'chunkiness' works. I contemplated coloured shoes but there would be too much going on then. I'm also going to keep jewellery minimal.

Now for hair and nails....!

Sounds great, OP! You'll be fabulous.

Someone else has posted about a glam dress for a wedding today and are wearing a fabulous vintage yellow cocktail dress! I wonder if you could borrow?! Grin

WobbleTime · 19/04/2019 00:05

I was just about to say, have a look at the other thread about that fabulous yellow/gold dress. Absolutely beautiful. Maybe something like that?

Aria999 · 19/04/2019 00:19

Glad you found one. I actually really love the original Chinese peonie dress you linked but not the price unfortunately
