Home hair dye disaster - when can i dye again?

Im a regular home hair dye user and today fancied a change from normal brown at roots (use semi perm to cover greys). I went for a permanent mahogany colour....
So I don't know if I left it on too long or whatever but my roots are BRIGHT red/orange....it's freaking ridiculous (and obvs looks nothing like the box!).
The ends.are ok, still reddy tones but that's ok.
So my question is...how long until i can dye over it?! Can anyone help me!?
Can I use a semi perm or does it need to be perm and just a normal.brown?
Just thank god it's half term tomorrow and I don't have to go to work!!!

Can you strip it with one of the boxed stripping kits? Then pop a brown over the top? I’ve done similar but went way way too dark stripped it then popped a light brown - L’Oréal preference colour on and it’s been fine since
Been much more careful with dye since then the stripping stuff stinks but the following dye did cover the smell up but I don’t want to risk damaging my hair any more good luck with hair. Sure you can use head and shoulders to lighten dye too?...

My solid shampoo bar from lush totally striped my box dye in about three uses! Smells much better then colour b4! Might be worth a try over a week or so and then use another dye, possibly less harsh?
