Help me find a dress

I'm going to a few weddings this year and have a bit of money to buy a new dress. I am absolutely hopeless with stylish clothes and have no idea where to shop or what would suit me.

I want something comfortable (definitely no shapeware) that I can wear with flat shoes. That's non negotiable as I'll be happier looking frumpy than being uncomfortable all day.

I'm 5'4", early 30s and stone over two overweight since pregnancy with a 30HH bust. From the front I have a great hourglass figure. From the side my massive boob's sort of merge into my massive tummy. So dresses designed for people with large breasts - the ones that cinch in under your boobs - just make me look pregnant.

Please help?

Not sure about dresses but well worth checking bra fit before you buy a dress, the right size bra can separate breasts from tummy and make you look taller and slimmer.

Thanks! My bras are from bravissimo and definitely fit. It's just that if a dress pulls in under my boobs it tends to make me look like I'm pregnant. And if not the two just sort of merge into one as they stick out about the same distance lol. I'm definitely carrying most of my weight on my stomach and hips since pregnancy as although iI'm quite overweight, you can't really tell from my face etc.

Ah ok, understood. I have a similar shape and find empire type dresses impossible too. Waisted dresses and ruching tend to fit me better. Also some shirt dresses.

Would separates be an idea instead? (That word sounds so 1950s 😁).

For dresses I found that a slightly fuller skirt was more flattering, I don’t me full on 50s style but just not fitted like this%

I've been tempted to try this one for example:

Could something like this work?
monsoon

hugoagogo · 24/02/2019 11:15

Or this one? floaty

If you're already buying bras from bravissimo have you checked their dresses. There is a guide to sizing so you can choose level of curvature. I totally get what you mean about the way some dresses just fall straight from boobs giving you no shape at all. I'm not attempting a link but here's a screenshot of one that I think would suit, would be able to choose from wide colour of accessories.

I like the Hobbes dress lucked maybe cinched in a bit at the waist would be a good idea?

The floaty monsoon dress might work Hugo it all depends if my boob's fit in the top bit. I suspect they wouldn't and it would throw the shape of the whole dress off. Not sure.

The first monsoon dress wouldn't work I think. My bra would be on show and I don't think the wrap around bit under the bust would be comfy or flattering.

At first I didn't like the French connection dress at first glance Catherine - i guess I had something prettier in mind. But actually I'm thinking I should go try it on. It could work :)

I'll definitely have a look in bravissimo posie. Although I've bought a few dresses from there in the past. I always think they look good in the shop and then get home and realise I look frumpy and middle aged.

I feel your pain with finding clothes for big boobs OP. I'm always recommending these on here but Bombshell dresses have chamged my life! The Confident dress is a gamechanger... www.bombshellhq.com

CatherineMaitland · 24/02/2019 11:49

There will be prettier things around with similar shapes if the shape works, anyway.

zigzagzig · 24/02/2019 12:04

Thanks namechanged, maybe this one www.bombshellhq.com/collections/dresses-for-weddings-collection/products/wine-bombshell-cap-sleeve-confident-dress

Catherine it's definitely a style worth trying.

Ooo gorgeous, I love a wine/aubergine colour. Not sure about the knee high boots with it, but could work with flats and a nice handbag. And a statement necklace! Grin those dresses have a shirring/sheering (?) panel at the side of the boob, you can't see it it's under the arm but let's you breathe and stretches when you sit down. Whichever dress you choose enjoy the run of weddings!
