Are these hair clips childish?

I love the recent hair clip trend. I hate having hair in my face, and the trend means loads of lovely clips are available now whereas before there was limited selection. I spotted these hair slides in my local Oliver Bonas store. I think they’re so pretty, but I immediately thought, do they look too childish?

I think they're nice! Not sure my opinion counts though as I wear dungarees, rainbow striped trousers and glittery trainers regularly... oh and my care bears t shirt Grin

WaterlooElephant · 23/02/2019 16:54

I like those, but I probably wouldn't buy them for myself (I'm 41). I would give them to my 14 year old niece though.

VictoriaVictoria · 23/02/2019 16:59

I own a pair of dungarees as well... think I’m reverting to being a toddler!!!
I think I might buy them, I can always give them to my daughter if they don’t look good on me - she’s 19 and could probably make them look ‘edgy’ and cool somehow!

I think hair clips are a bit childish by their very nature and yes, I do think the ones you linked to are suited more for kiddies. If you have to buy some, I think these are better www.oliverbonas.com/accessories/arrow-metallic-hair-grips-pack-of-three-235312

Mokepon · 23/02/2019 17:02

I think they are very pretty. Cute but not childish iyswim. I'd wear them and I'm 41.
But I don't have any dungarees although I do very much like a splash of colour!

emilybrontescorsett · 23/02/2019 17:04

I think if you are the type of person. To wear hair clips then they are fine.

Tomtontom · 23/02/2019 17:04

They're lovely. Stupidly overpriced but lovely.

VictoriaVictoria · 23/02/2019 17:05

Thanks for your replies and advice! I will have to wear a very sophisticated and grown up outfit with them, to make them look ‘cute’ instead of childish.

Maybe a little young for someone of 45-plus, but up to about that age, I think they're fine. I (very sadly) stopped wearing my glitter butterflies when I got to mid-forties.

wiltingflower · 23/02/2019 17:10

The hair clips are beautiful. I wouldn't consider them to be childish but this is subjective. I think they could make a messy hairstyle look more chic and a neat hairstyle look more fabulous.

hairypaws · 23/02/2019 17:12

I'm 48 and love these. Might buy them too. I do however also love the arrow ones.

Thatsnotmyotter · 23/02/2019 17:15

They are lovely and I would buy myself some if maternity pay didn’t make £12 for hair grips seem painful 😂 I’m mid 20s but I could equally see my mid 50s mum wearing them too.

VictoriaVictoria · 23/02/2019 17:16

Okay, I’ll give them a go! Worth a try as they are so pretty. I’m telling myself if I wear them a lot that £12 will be justified?! The whole hairclips section on Oliver Bonas is lovely. I also love the greens in this set www.oliverbonas.com/accessories/colour-studded-barrette-hair-clips-238867

I luffs them very much! Really pretty colour. Wear them and be proud :D

wildthingsinthenight · 23/02/2019 17:28

They're lovely

PizzaPlanet · 23/02/2019 17:28

I like them - I though you were going to link to cupcake, rainbow or unicorn themed ones

NC4Now · 23/02/2019 17:31

They wouldn’t hold my hair, but I don’t think the style is an issue.

Sophiemtb · 23/02/2019 17:38

I like them and would wear them myself, but I always think the whole hair clip look is quite a youthful look anyway. Putting them in always reminds me of getting ready for school lol.

Propolis · 23/02/2019 19:57

I like them and I'm over 40
