Wtf have I done to my hair-help!

So I dye my own hair blonde (I know, but finances don’t permit salon at the mo). I did it last weekend and the roots were a little ‘brassy’. I read on here about fudge clean blonde and have used it thinking it would help but omg! The rest of the hair is now very light and the roots (approx 2.5 inches) look even brassier than ever! I was scared to leave it on too long in case my dyed hair went purple so did one wash all over leaving it literally seconds which made no difference, so I used it again, this time keeping it just to the roots as much as poss, and left it on 5 mins. It looks awful! The contrast between the very blonde and brassy yellow is now huge. Shall I do it again just in the roots and leave it longer or will that not help now? Shall I buy an ash blonde dye and use it just on the roots? Helllp! Shock Oh and to make matters worse I’m away from home on a city break and today’s my birthday! ConfusedGrinShock

Is your hair longer enough to be tied up ? That might be a little more forgiving until you get home.

Alternatively you could look for a toner to try. Are you still in the uk ? I’ve bought toners before from boots and Tesco, might be worth giving them a try on the worst parts.

Apart from that I’m not sure. Hopefully a hairdresser might be along here soon :-)

I did this about 2 years ago. I tried all sorts and spent so much money on toners and hair dye.
I doesn't work. I ended up at the salon to correct it.

Your hair is brassy as you needed stronger dye to lift the colour. DO NOT DYE IT AGAIN. I did that and ended up wreaking my hair.

Please learn from my mistake and go to the salon.

Better advice from someone who’s been through this ! Hope it all works out okay :-)

Happy birthday!

Sounds like you haven't lifted enough with the colour you used. Do you bleach or just use a box dye?

If bleach you can do a bleach bath only on the roots but try and leave your hair for as long as you can and really deep condition before you do it.

If box then it sounds like you just coloured your roots hence the different colour. Deep condition your hair and choose a slightly different blonde.

The fudge stuff does work but if you have not lifted the hair enough it won't be able to tone down the yellow to white/ash as it's not there yet. I bleach my own hair as I found box dye kept changing the colour and was not consistent even when using the same colour.

At this point it would be cheaper to go to a salon and ask for a colour correction. Really, the only thing that would help would be to bleach your roots and then asses the tones left and re-tone everything possibly with different toners depending on what result you were after and how your roots lift. No hairdresser is going to able to advise you without seeing your hair.

Even colouring it darker will leave your roots a different colour and possibly turn the ends green.

Sorry forgot to say that box dye on top of what you currently have could turn your hair green.
