Stupid question about balayage

If you have balayage can you just have a standard root colour done every six weeks or so to cover your greys then refresh the balayage more sporadically? Thinking of having it done to break up my all-over colour but worried about the cost and hassle of upkeep. I'm a brunette so there wouldn't be a huge contrast between roots and ends (and I'm only a little bit grey, around my hairline).

Yes, this is what I do. I have the bleach bit done 2-3 times a year and then in between, I can get away with just having the roots done with a semi-permanent colour. Much cheaper and quicker!
