Anyone else wondering WTF they're going to wear in Spring / Summer?

Yes, planning ahead. I had a look around the shops last weekend and it was a polyester horror show. What sort of trousers? What kind of tops? Work is smart casual - I'm sorted for Winter but what on earth do you wear when it warms up? I'm 39, size 10-12 and not fond of showing much flesh. Anyone got any pearls of wisdom, or seen anything nice in the shops so far?

I've bought these trousers (first two are wool from Boden, third is cotton cord from Warehouse) based on the assumption that last year was a wonderful anomaly and this year we'd need the usual warm clothes that look a bit springy rather than the warm clothes that look a bit wintery. :)

If we get some properly warm weather I'll go back to my summer clothes I have that, as pp have said, last forever as they're so rarely worn. I have a few full cotton skirts from Dolly and Dotty and Lady V London.

Like you op, I have a horror of poly, which (on me anyway) starts to smell sweaty within 15mins of getting dressed. I find online shopping helps in that I can cover a lot of ground without getting frustrated. Boden, &other stories, Patra, Celtic & Co, Pure Collection, Uniqlo, Gap, Jigsaw and Asos all have cotton, silk and linen items. Sometimes I put cotton (linen, whatever) in the search box, sometimes that works well, it depends on which site you use.

I bought a pair of Moshulu sandals last year (the Wasabi ones) which served me pretty well.

Thanks halfwitpicker Smile
I’ve worn it already!

You don't need to buy new clothes every year! Fast fashion is terrible for the environment. Why don't you get better quality things that will last longer?

Has anyone any advice on what shoes to wear with midi skirts/ dresses? Feel like boots will be wrong when it gets warmer, but sandals almost too casual for work unless it's really hot. My pointed court shoes just look at bit dated Confused

ginger I wear trainers (Stan Smiths, Original 80s, Nike Air Max) or brogues, but it tends not to be as hot here, and I don’t wear formal clothes for work. I have Saltwater sandals I occasionally wear, but they hurt my feet.Mine look daft - on me - with boots and need the bare leg gap.

Palmairas?

I have ordered this M&S dress for work. It is a cotton linen mix so I hope it won’t crease like 100% linen.

I lived in cropped trousers last year but I am in Scotland and don’t have too many very hot days.

That's v nice Lucked!

Baking hot classrooms require linen trousers and shell tops for me.

Sometimes chinos and a cotton or linen shirt.

I hate it. I bloody love the weather but the oppressive heat + 30 sweaty teens = no fun.

Oly4 · 21/02/2019 16:16

I avoid trousers in summer heat as I get too hot. Most of my dresses are cotton and from Boden, Crew or Monsoon.
For evenings, M&S do great wide leg linen trousers at fab prices. I love their summer linen!

I don't think anyone said they were going to replace their entire wardrobe. I feel like I have enough now for the really hot days after last year where I bought some more dresses and skirts but I still need some new tops to replace those that are now too worn for work (after several years of wear Hmm) and I think I'll maybe buy some slouchy widelegged linen trousers but will need to check if I need a new pair or not, last year was all about skirts and dresses so it's a while since I wore trousers in the summer.
