The Best Foot File Ever...

ZaraW · 18/02/2019 15:43

For years I've been in search of a decent foot file, I hated the Soap & Glory one, despise Footer with a passion why does it get rid of my soft skin but leave the hard? And too many to mention being sold on the beauty sites. BUT after reading Salli Hughes' recommendation in The Guardian I purchased the Microplane. It's amazing my feet look and feel so much better. It's superior to anything I've tried. It's ten pound well spent. If you have feet like hooves get yourself one.

Thanks zaraw I'll be giving this a try.. I see they are on eBay for just under £4?

ZaraW · 18/02/2019 16:01

Even better get two 😉!

I second this !

After a lifetime of big bills at the chiropodist and numerous product purchases I bought a Microplane and it is absolutely brilliant . Reduced the hard skin build - up massively .

Thesuzle · 18/02/2019 17:49

No no no its a Margaret Dabs footfile for me. Comes with extra diamonds dust stick on strips. Lasts for ages

Sarcelle · 18/02/2019 17:55

Seconding Margaret Dabbs one. (

ZaraW · 18/02/2019 17:57

I won't be straying from my Microplane.

Is that the one that's like a cheese grater? I used it and thought it was brilliant, but on the 4th or 5th time I used it my feet were left really sore to walk on. Took months for my feet to feel normal again. It's just too easy to remove too much skin or skin in the wrong places. I now use a Micro Pedi, and am careful not to overdo it.

ZaraW · 18/02/2019 18:09

Kaldefotter it does say on the instructions to stop filing once the hard skin is removed. Surely that's the same with any foot file don't over do it otherwise it's going to hurt?

Where did you buy the microplane?

SpeckledyHen · 18/02/2019 18:25

LunaTheCat- I bought mine on amazon .

Theseptemberissues · 18/02/2019 19:27

Just ordered one off eBay, thanks for the recommendation! Would like to try and get my feet in a nice condition before sandal season

Destinesia · 18/02/2019 21:56

Got one too after reading the same recommendation. It's the only thing that managed to hack through and actually remove my hard skin and calluses rather than just polish it!

Baconislife · 18/02/2019 23:28

Newton sponges are the best thing for dry skin on feet

AuntieOxident · 18/02/2019 23:31

I just got one on Amazon too after reading Sali Hughes’ recommendation.
Haven’t tried it yet but I will go carefully!

TortoiseLettuce · 18/02/2019 23:38

I have one of those grater foot files. It’s literally the only thing that stops my feet from cracking and bleeding. I use it after a bath or shower followed by Vaseline and it works miracles. They’re not a new thing though, I’ve had one for at least 15-20 years.

pallisers · 18/02/2019 23:41

I use an actual cheese grater. Off to google the Microplane now.

I have started putting vaseline and a pair of socks on my feet every night (it ain't pretty) before bed and in one week my terrible feet are transformed.

ZaraW · 19/02/2019 04:27

Tortoise I used the Odd Egg years ago. The Microplane is better and easier to use.

ZaraW · 19/02/2019 04:28

The Ped Egg...

TortoiseLettuce · 19/02/2019 08:14

No mine isn’t a Ped Egg. It’s a grater with a handle. Virgin Vie used to make them. Shows you how long they last as Virgin Vie is no more!

twilightcafe · 19/02/2019 11:10

Make sure you get a genuine Microplane one. There are copies on Amazon, which are blunt and won't remove any dry skin.

AvaTheGardener · 19/02/2019 11:11

I love mine. And, yes, you can't be too heavy handed with it, but blimey, that pile of hoof debris on the newspaper afterwards...

AuntieOxident · 19/02/2019 11:15

Well, I used mine for the first time last night and while it did get rid of hard skin it also left a lot of rough, raggedy bits on my feet, especially along the sides.
I had to use a crystal foot file a fair bit otherwise the rough bits would catch on the sheets. I hate it when that happens, yeuch.
Am I doing it wrong? Will the rough bits smooth out if I just keep going?
(don't want to overdo it, bearing in mind the problems a PP had with sore feet....)

Any tips would be much appreciated.

ILoveCrunchyAutumnLeaves · 19/02/2019 11:23

Second the Newton's sponge, I've used every type of foot file and nothing can compare.

ChakiraChakra · 19/02/2019 11:25

Schol foot file for me! I've lost mine at the moment and could really do with finding it Hmm

Skirmisher · 19/02/2019 11:32

I'm a Newton's devotee too.
