Dressing for size 16

A generous size 16.... What do you think looks ok? I usually wear tea dresses, cardigans and tights with ankle/ knee boots. But I'm so bored . .. I've been hunting for trousers all weekend but nothing looks good. But I'm so bored and feel very down. I need to lose weight but it won't happen overnight so need so ideas!
Can you suggest a style that looks good?

My friend's a size 16 and she's short too...she runs a very posh gallery and she always looks lovely. She is an apple shape so her legs are slim; she wears skinny jeans with gorgeous shoes/sandals/boots and bias cut tops a lot.

What sort of size 16 are you? Are you a pear or an apple?

Todayillbebetter · 18/02/2019 01:45

I'm a pear shape. I have a waist and a big bottom and thighs. I want to still look lovely but I think I'm kidding myself somewhat!

I'm a size 16 and my go-to is shirt dresses, opaque tights and ankle boots :)

What is your body shape? Do measurements, get on a body shape calculator and follow on Insta etc style bloggers with that shape. I’ve just done this recently and what a difference it has made. Sorry I missed you said you were a pear. Double check. There are so many shapes I thought I was a particular one for years and turns out I wasn’t.

I'm with bubble, Next have got some nice shirt dresses at the moment.

I'm sure you have a great figure, just the high st trend at the moment isn't for curves so makes it harder to find things that fit.

Wear tops or dresses that hug your waist. No empire or straight styles.

"Straight leg" trousers or jeans (try loads on in m&S till something fits round your thighs but doesn't gape too much at your waist!)

Wrap dresses

Tops should end at your hip bone avoid tunic-style below your bum

Any advice on finding instagrammers with similar body shapes? I always seem to only find those that are curvy but not really very overweight or much, much bigger they me.

I like Style me Curvy on instagram I thinks she's an 18 but always looks fab

Thank you! I knew you'd have some helpful tips here. I have some wrap dresses and a new one from next. I think I wear too many tunics then....good I'll let them go now.
I don't have Instagram. Will people have to know who I'm following as I'm quite private!

Actually one of my biggest issues for trousers us that I have a very dimply bum and thighs so I need to wear control short underneath but it's very uncomfortable. Some patterned trousers hide it well but I'm very conscious of it! I so desperately want some work trousers.

To find instagrammers with your shape just search in the search bar (for example) plussizepear or appleshape or rectanglebody that kind of thing and results will come up, just go down the rabbit hole and start following who you like the style or look of. You can even follow the tags themself so the results come up on your feed. If you don’t want to have people see what you’re looking at maybe set up a private account so nobody knows it’s you.
