Need to update my wardrobe - some blog suggestions?

I massively minimalised my wardrobe about 2 years ago, and I have basically been wearing jeans and a long sleeved t shirt since then; with a skirt, jacket and long sleeved t shirt to work.

I am bored bored bored, and also loosing weight (currently at 12) so i am about ready to start to look a bit nicer.

Any good blog suggestions or other good ideas?

My wardrobe sounds a bit like yours. Maybe someone will help us.

I got rid of a lot of my clothes in a major declutter last year and now I'm currently doing a year of no new clothes so I know how you feel! I'm currently enjoying revamping my wardrobe from eBay and charity shops and amazed at what I can pick up for buttons. I started with some staples like a few quality jumpers for the cool weather and now I'm getting some nice lighter dressy tops for spring/summer.

Just think of what it is you need and then what style suits you best, favourite colours etc and then go on the hunt for quality clothes that will last you well x

The 3 rules I tend to stick to are;

  1. Does it suit/flatter me, I find this makes a huge difference to whether you actually wear it or not.

  2. Does it go with other items in my wardrobe or is it easy to buy something that is. I used to buy so many separates that I couldn’t wear as I didn’t have the right top/bottom to pair it with.

  3. It is different/crazy/wow. Perhaps it’s just me but my more outlandish pieces get worn a lot more than I thought they would & can bring a edge (sorry) to a very simple outfit. Think sequins, frills, faux fur, feathers, etc.

I do all of those things but I seem to wear an uniform. I have a wardrobe of similar clothes, with the things that come out occasionally (for weddings etc), and some fun things but what I generally wear is very boring. Identikit outfits.
I am quite happy with what I wear but I get nagged a bit to wear more colour.
I'm good at charity shopping - I can find something fairly meh on a hanger, buy it bring it home and it looks great, but I struggle with smart/business casual, and going out clothes.

Any ideas as to who dresses nicely? I am not of model proportions - I'm shortish, slimish, and a bit of a tomboy.

fancynancyclancy · 19/02/2019 18:16

What styles & shapes do you like wearing?

Re people who dress nicely, very subjective. I like Kate Moss, Rosie HW, Angelina (evening wear).

MikeUniformMike · 19/02/2019 19:44

I hope I'm not hijacking, but I like tailored clothes and I am very much a t-shirt and jeans type. I won't wear a flared or A-line skirt, cleavage or body con. My work outfits are like the OP's. Kate Moss generally looks good. The Liz Hurley look just isn't for me.
I don't live a red carpet lifestyle. If I go out with colleagues, I will be in work clothes, which is fine but probably boring.
If I go to a do like a wedding or party, I look fine.
What I am clueless with is the night out with friends or night out with OH or OH and his friends. We're talking what might be going to the pub or meal out or something.

You could look at The Style Guide and The Style Sister’s on Facebook, not sure if they blog but they post some really useful videos and you can pay to get more personal wardrobe/body shape advice. They’re personal shoppers by trade I think.

Thanks for the suggestions. Very happy with your comments mum as they are what I would have said in all situations.

I don't have tonnes of time for schlepping round shops I wanted some inspiration from the Internet of where to start.

Day clothes, lunches or out for a drink are my problem. And work I guess. I have formal sorted and am currently mostly wearing sportswear day to day

Thanks itsboiledeggsagain. You're probably not as clueless as me.I'll check out the suggestions.

Body shape and type isn't the issue for me. I know what suits me, I just don't know what to wear if invited to meal out in an upmarket bar for a 40th birthday or something. I'm sure I could rustle up an outfit from what I've got but I just don't know what sort of things I should wear.

fancynancyclancy · 19/02/2019 23:25

I’m quite a casual dresser in general & not a big pattern or colour lover but I wear the below (if it helps).

Side stripe cropped trousers with heels, t-shirt & leather jacket.
Jeans or tailored trousers with cami & nice blazer/jacket.
Jumpsuit
Midi dress
Midi skirt

If the clothes themselves are quite simple & elegant then I tend to wear a more casual shoe if that makes sense.
Depending how dressy I need to be add earrings or a smarter shoe.

I like a lot of Claudia Winklemans outfits as she never looks too smart.
