It's just dinner and cocktails next month but I'm drawing a blank. I have this dress but is it too daytime?

If say that dress looks perfect. Just wear it with confidence

That dress looks too bland. Go for something more dressy.like a cocktail dress. At 5ft 7 and size 8, you will look amazing in pretty much anything.

I think with black ‘barely there’ stiletto heeled sandals it will look good.
