How to prevent smelly underarms 🤮

Makeupaddikt · 15/02/2019 16:41

Hi sorry to write about this horrible subject but well I have horrible smelly underarms, I shave frequently, and shower daily, use deodorant (no particular kind just whatever is on offer) and I still find my underarms are smelly.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get rid of this?

I have used Driclor before and the Sure £5 one is good too - you apply to clean skin each night then I think wash off the Driclor in the morning. The Sure one is really good I've found. You can use as normal in the morning but the advice is to put on before bed and it works that way for me.

woodhill · 15/02/2019 20:12

I find Mitchum stick good, if tops are whiffy - vinegar and water.

I agree soap on armpits. I only sweat at work and one armpit is worse

YourFly · 15/02/2019 20:13

Only Sure Maximum works for me.

Ive tried loads.

BiggFactHunt · 15/02/2019 20:16

I’ve used everything, absolutely every anti-perspirant out there and nothing worked. Botox yearly is the only thing that stops the smell for me.

CourageCalls · 15/02/2019 20:36

The sure £5 one as mentioned above plus washing with soap (proper soap) is the only thing that works with me. It's definitely hormonal sometimes I'm fine other times it's a lot xx

Figmentofimagination · 15/02/2019 21:13

I had this issue, it got a lot worse once I had given birth. So much that I was having to change my tops multiple times a day and wash a few times under my arms.
After reading other threads on here, I have found using a proper bar of soap to wash instead of shower gel, the using a roll on anti-perspirant after I've showered has helped massively. If I shower at night I also spray anti-perspirant in the morning. Clothes have also been cleaned thoroughly with vanish and Dr Beckmann sweat stain spray.

Soap, natural fabrics, air your house daily and dry your clothes outside (I'm Scottish, we are great believers in fresh air as a cure for everything).

Disagre with: biological powder, shaving yoyr armpits, worrying about it (I've worked with many men that smell but the only smelly women smell of pee not BO).

FloofyDoof · 15/02/2019 21:46

Wash with proper soap, after drying swipe with glycolic acid toner (The ordinary or pixi work), give it a minute or two, dust with a tiny a bit of medicated talc (superdrug, cost about £1), then use normal antiperspirant. I like sanex or mitchum.

Something to do with the acid altering the pH level of your pits which kills off the BO causing bacteria. I don't think the medicated talc is actually necessary for odour reduction, but I went through a phase of getting occasional painful underarm spots and I haven't had any at all in the few months since I've been doing this, so I will just keep on using it.

isoundbetterinmyheadhonest · 15/02/2019 21:56

Mitchum roll on for me but it has to be the fragrance free one as the scented ones smell funny on me as they work.

Thecazelets · 15/02/2019 21:59

Perspirex. Life changing. Not the strong one though - just the norma.

TantricTwist · 16/02/2019 01:13

Soap

Mitchum

Bubba1234 · 16/02/2019 01:15

Botox

caesio · 16/02/2019 05:57

Driclor once every 4 weeks, you can buy from an online pharmacy.
Amazing stuff.
Though as PP says not when you've just shaved your underarms.

Then Mitchum rollon frangrance free rest of the time.

slinkysaluki · 16/02/2019 06:27

Another vote fir Mitcham roll on only thing that works oroperly on me

MiniTheMinx · 16/02/2019 08:16

I agree with everyone suggesting soap.

Also, contentious maybe.... But try to stop shaving and see if that makes a difference. I don't shave, and I don't sweat. On the rare occasions I've shaved it's irritated the skin and made me perspire. It may be just a weird individual quirk of mine, but it's worth considering.

PeterPiperPickedWrong · 16/02/2019 08:42

Using soap instead of shower gel has been life changing for me. The smell is totally gone. Also I apply this AT NIGHT after a shower. My pits are lovely Grin

How to prevent smelly underarms 🤮
Kedgeree · 16/02/2019 08:52

Plain bar soap, any cheap one from the supermarket will do. Dry properly and immediately apply Mitchum unscented roll-on not just in the pits, but also around the outside of the armpit area and slide it down the inner upper arm a couple of inches - the sweat glands are in these areas too. Wait until fully dry before dressing.

Got this advice on MN, follow it religiously and have resolved the odour problem. I did an experiment a few weeks back, where I used a nice shower gel for a few days (given it as a Xmas gift and felt guilty for not using it). I was surprised to find that I smelled as bad after a shower as before. It literally made no impact at all. It was as if I hadn't washed.

ZigZagZombie · 16/02/2019 09:09

Kedgeree I'm the same - I seem to have about 10 "nice" shower gels which I'm loathe to bin - and most have been opened so I can't donate. I try them and my entire body feels minging and almost slimy within 24 hours. Soap makes me feel properly clean and I honestly don't smell (not that anyone's mentioned anyway Grin !).

Right now there are 2 in the rack - Imperial Leather and that African black soap which we're all rather taken with - although it does tend to splatter up the walls making it look like there's been some terrible D&V accident!

greenelephantscarf · 16/02/2019 09:11

you can use those shower gels to wash woolen clothes

ZigZagZombie · 16/02/2019 09:14

greenelephant I do actually in a pique of frugality - save off opening the next washing powder/washing up liquid by having a few rounds of shower gel! Grin

Oldraver · 16/02/2019 09:21

If you dont already, try washing your underarms (with any of the above recomendations) before you go to bed

EducatingArti · 16/02/2019 09:24

I keep a spray bottle of diluted zoflora and use this to spray the underarms of tops and leave for 30 minutes before washing. This really works to get the smell out of tops.

VanGoghsDog · 16/02/2019 10:55

As well as using proper soap (I like Cidal), a strong anti perspirant weekly and a good one daily (Mitchum, I like the stick), I also add a cap of Zoflora to the washing as I don't like bio washing stuff.

Interested in the ideas to use up shower gel, I also have loads. Also have three glycerin soaps I won't use, I only like proper soap.

greenelephantscarf · 16/02/2019 10:58

you can use soap for laundry as well.
my nan only used bar soap. she had a veg peeler especially to shave off some soap to use in the washing mashine.

woodhill · 16/02/2019 10:59

I still use shower gel but then wash armpits etc with soap
