How to prevent smelly underarms 🤮

Hi sorry to write about this horrible subject but well I have horrible smelly underarms, I shave frequently, and shower daily, use deodorant (no particular kind just whatever is on offer) and I still find my underarms are smelly.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get rid of this?

Very bland white soap
PitRok black (crystal)

Even on my menopausal pits in the height of last summer , they were dry and non whiffy .

WTAFIGO · 15/02/2019 18:11

Bar soap straight on the pits though glycerin soaps like Pears or Body Shop don’t work as well as creamier ones like Imperial Leather. Don’t use Dove. Mitchum roll on followed by a different brand spray. I find different brand roll on and spray work better together than the same brand.

Clean bra every day too....many people don't do this and the bacteria that can be the cause of underarm smells are right back in again

Hepzibar · 15/02/2019 18:38

OP I have had this problem all my life (since puberty). I have always had to use strong deodorants- only use Triple Dry (old Lindon Voss). But still it didn't completely stop the BO smell.

I read on her, about 12 months ago, a similar thread, the advice was to use an anti bacterial soap. Cidal for example.

I ditched shower gel and started using soap. It has completely eradicated the problem. I am 55 years old and this has transformed my life. I will never return to shower gel.

Soap. Proper soap that makes your skin squeak, not Dove or other "moisturiser bars". DD and I initially switched to Ponds which stopped the whiff within days. Now we use Simple.

I heard someone on the radio talking about exfoliating: skin brushing.

megletthesecond · 15/02/2019 18:55

Soap.
Dry your tops inside out on the washing line as much as our weather permits.

grincheux · 15/02/2019 19:04

Driclor all the way!

RyvitaBrevis · 15/02/2019 19:11

If all else fails, I've heard Botox for the underarms is really a game changer. I think it lasts around 9 months or so.

Drogosnextwife · 15/02/2019 19:14

Perspirex

Picklypickles · 15/02/2019 19:17

I usually use Mitchum roll-on, I've just bought Simple roll on to try and that's working really well too, doesn't seem to smell of anything at all but I've been quite sweaty today running about in the sunshine and I'm not smelling funky yet!!

TheCraicDealer · 15/02/2019 19:18

Mitchum roll on and soap- proper bar soap, NOT Dove which is mostly moisturiser. I switched to it for a bit and I was definitely whiffier for it. Also bio detergent for clothes.

Ooplesandbanoonoos · 15/02/2019 19:20

Try washing with anti bacterial soap e.g. hanwash and use mitchum

nevernotstruggling · 15/02/2019 19:25

It's a several pronged attack - I'm using Driclor, washing clothes with disinfectant and or vinegar in the wash and only using bar soap. I've cracked it - I can actually wear man made tops again without stinking!!!

Imperfectsusan · 15/02/2019 19:26

I think Mitchum is good.

teapotter1 · 15/02/2019 19:30

I had this problem and only cream deodorants work for me, I tried spray and gel like ones just only ones that are like soap (if that makes sense) work for me. The dove one is the best for me by far.

ZigZagZombie · 15/02/2019 19:30

Soap.

SparklySneakers · 15/02/2019 19:33

Soap and this one. It says for best results apply at night. I never do but will do once it gets warmer. I get really sweaty pits and am conscious of smelling. Driclor burns my skin but it's good stuff.

Llongyfarchiadau · 15/02/2019 19:39

Use soap - even a very basic soap - instead of shower gel.

Use a flannel to wash/scrub your armpits to remove bacteria at least daily.

Change your clothes daily, avoiding man-made fibres if possible.

With the above in place, your choice of deodorant is less important.

nugget900 · 15/02/2019 19:43

It might have something to do with what you eat

Oldtiger · 15/02/2019 19:48

Mitchum Rollon worked wonders for me when I was sweaty in pregnancy and I’ve never gone back to Sure Sprays. It is cheap and lasts for ages!

Mummyshark2018 · 15/02/2019 19:52

I've tried loads, including mitcham. Best one I have found is Sure (stress relief). Only one now that works for me

Thesearmsofmine · 15/02/2019 19:52

I also use Mitchum. Fab stuff.

greenelephantscarf · 15/02/2019 19:53

yes to bar soap & flannel
and to changing tops daily and washing them warmer than 30 with bio powder.

NeverHadANickname · 15/02/2019 19:58

Mitchum stick for sure. I can tell when I haven't used it and I feel like it's better if I use it regularly if you see what I mean. If I have been ill and haven't used it for a couple of days it takes a couple of days use to fully feel covered again.
