Colourist fucked up my hair :(

Stupid stupid me decided to try the new salon near my house as i figured it would be more convenient (it's a 2 min walk away) and id read some good reviews. I've wanted to go much blonder for a while. My hair is naturally dark blonde eith a few highlights which I last got done nearly a year ago. Whenever i have them done I find I can still see the grey around my temples so figured going much blonder would help. I've attached a screenshot of the colour i wanted. The guy spent 3 hours adding foils and decided to put a slightly darker ashy tint on the rest as a contrast. I did notice the foils he did weren't as tight as i normally have but figured it wasn't a big deal. A trainee put on the tint in the sections between (these were quite sparse as he did very chunky blonde highlights) and when she did the very front at the end I realised the foils weren't tight to my head and she was dabbing the tint on the roots where the foils were! It was too late to do anything at this point and I was a bit panicked. He washed it all off and put a toner on for a few minutes then when he dried it I noticed the dark roots and the blonde is yellowy not the white blonde I wanted at all! He charged me 160 quid for this monstrosity! Anyone here a hairdresser think this can be sorted? It looks awful. I dont want to go back to them as i dont trust them to be honest! I'm gutted :( Will attach pic of the reality in next post!

You need another toner, an ice white or more ashy one. Sometimes it takes a few tries.
To get to that colour in the picture you'll need to go back in about 6 weeks as it takes a while.usually bleach then the toners I've mentioned above. But you shouldn't of paid that! I'd go back and ask for another whiter toner.

Oblomov19 · 15/02/2019 15:29

Definitely ring them now. Tell them everything you've told us on this thread. Ask them what they suggest?

princessTiasmum · 15/02/2019 17:08

I wouldnt be happy with that,go back with the picture and ask him to do what you wanted [put it right]
I also bleach my own, and if it goes wrong i have not paid a fortune for it, and it has never gone wrong,[for free] its not what you asked for,
Why pay again,i would be furious after paying £160

I don't understand what they were aiming for. Is your natural hair lighter than the dark tint? If so will it grow out with a weird darker line? Or is it a semi that will fade?

I used to have highlights with a semi all over the rest but the semi was the main colour with the highlights being quite fine iyswim so it didn't look odd

Rosered341 · 15/02/2019 20:09

It look like the foils weren't close enough to your scalp? The tint look too orangey, the foul colour is nice though.

Titsywoo · 15/02/2019 22:37

Yes my natural hair is lighter than the dark tint. I agree it's orangey which is odd as he told me he was using an ashy dark blonde for that. Anyway I've used a toner (properly this time, at the salon the girl who washed my hair put it on for 1 minute!). I got advice from my normal hairdresser. She had a look and couldn't understand what he had done either. She said to come back in 4 to 6 weeks and she can sort out the horrible root issue. The toner has actually done the trick for now. It's much nearer the shade I wanted. Yes i agree I should have been told it would take a few goes to get it ashy but it's the stupid tint that's ruined the whole thing. I should go back but I had something happen about 10 years ago where someone fucked up my colour and when I went back to get it sorted they made it worse! Once burned twice shy and all that! I did get a decent cut and blow dry as well for the 160 quid so it's not all a waste... DH says now I've put the toner on I can't go back and demand a refund as I've not given them the chance to right it. Hey up you live you learn I guess.

I can't comment on the hair, but I love the way your eye peeps out from behind your hand in the main picture. It is so expressive!

Rosered341 · 16/02/2019 00:14

*foil colour is nice - not foul colour 🙈

Ellapaella · 16/02/2019 08:35

Keep using a purple shampoo and conditioner every other wash until you can go and get your roots sorted, that'll help keep the brassy tones in the roots at bay.

CookPassBabtridge · 16/02/2019 09:41

I would think of this as the pre stage of going ash blonde as I've never known anyone be able to go straight to the silvery/white colour. It's always yellowy at first. He should have made that clear though!

Villanelley · 16/02/2019 10:29

i don't know why that grey shade of blonde is so coveted, it looks bloody awful to me.

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 16/02/2019 18:31

It looks lovely. I'm a bit like that when I have new stylists I worry once they've done it and don't like my hair for a week afterwards lol!

BellamyBlake · 16/02/2019 18:56

Slather on the purple shampoo. Fudge clean blonde is amazing at getting rid of brassy tones !

sewingbeezer · 16/02/2019 18:57

Your DH is correct. You can't go back and complain when you've put another colour on top as for all the salon knows, you could have caused the root colour issue by diy-ing your hair colour.

Next time, don't pay until you're 100% happy with the results. That's the time to point out any concerns.

PCohle · 16/02/2019 19:09

I don't know about the dying over the top issue. You've got clear photographic evidence of what it looked like when the hairdresser was finished.
