Help me please

Im 54, Im 3 stone more than I ever have been. I have lterally tried everything to fix this, not working. I am putting it down to middle age spread.
Anyways, I need a dress for a "smart casual" wedding in August. My dress sense is about 20 years younger than my age.
I have to face the fact I am now a frumpy middle aged lady, not a hot young thing.
My issue arises because the wedding is in the UK, my family will need to be visited and its in DH family the wedding is happening. I have not seen DH family in 16 years and mine in over 20 when I was a hot young thing.
I have no clue what to buy that will suit me, Im short and over weight but want to look good.
Please help

What is your figure really like? Bra size? Waist size? Pear, apple or hour glass? Good arms legs? What's your usual style? Who do you admire. Hair cut and colour? Skin colour? So many questions but unless we know the answers it will be a stab in the dark!

Have you thought about seeing a personal shopper in one of the big department stores? Ahead of time, you provide them with info on size, colouring, preferences etc. At your appointment, they'll bring a selection of clothes they think will suit you and whatever occasion you've asked them for. After trying on, you are under no obligation to buy but, hopefully, they will help you find something you love, and give you some ideas going forward.

All the family will have aged too!
Your age and size do not have to equate to frumpiness.
Wear a colour you love, nothing to baggy or oversized (don't hide your shape) and have your hair done!
