What kind of hair dye?

Hairdressers keep telling me that all
Blond dyes have bleach in them and will lighten hair. I understand that but what do women with white hair use to make their hair blond?! Surely that’s a dye that adds colour not bleaches it out. Please can someone advise?

What I’m looking for is a light ashy blond dye to use to colour my greys but without bleaching the rest of my hair. (Like a highlight effect I suppose) There has to be a blond dye that adds colour without bleaching, surely?

Any non permanent dyes should do it, some may lighten hair a small amount though. It obviously will colour the rest of your hair so do an allergy/strand test beforehand

try a semi-permanent toner instead; I like Proclere Herbal Blonde. There are various shades and it does a decent job on greys. I have very dark hair, highlighted with a mix of light brown and deep blonde and I attack the greys with this in-between salon visits. The name is not good, but the 'beige' one is a good result, as is the 'ivory'.

Those who have white hair will have used bleach until it a pale yellow colour. You then need to use a toner of the opposite colour in the colour wheel to cancel out the colour you already have. In the case of yellow you need purple which then gives you white platinum. Same reason why if you have a green tinge to your hair colour you need to use a red toner (or sometimes ketchup) to cancel it out. If you have orange, you need blue.

Thanks all. I will look at some semi permanent colours, I just don’t understand why there isn’t a perm colour which adds blond without bleach. Dark hair dyes just deposit colour so why can’t there be a blond one that does the same Hmm

Try the organic/vegan/natural dyes? No bleaching in them. Its Pure is the only brand I can think of off the top of my head but there are others around.
