L’OREAL Anoa or Majirel

Expert in colouring advice please - I’ve generally always had Anoa applied at the salon (three quarters of 5.0 & one quarter of 6.1). I’ve changed salon as moved out of the area & they never seem to get it right! (Fed up paying loads now) All I want is stray greys covered & to knock out most of the warmth! So...I’m considering doing it myself. Is it fairly easy to do the mixing side? What else do I need? Not sure whether to go Anoa or Majirel (I understand that anoa is more oil based?). I’ve Nice & easy boxed coloured years ago but whilst that covered my greys it didn’t knock out the warmth! I don’t feel confident doing a bit of both colours so what would you suggest if I had a mix of 5.0 & 6.1? TIA

Majirel cool cover 6.11 or possibly 7.11 depending on the depth you want. Google to get an idea of colour. In my experience this one tends to take a bit darker than other Majirel ones but it is formulated so that you don’t get that warmth effect kicking in after a few washes.

It is easy to DIY -lots of threads on here. You mix it 1:1.5 ratio with 20 or 30 vol creme peroxide depending on how porous your hair is. I generally use 30 vol as I have resistant white hair.

So 10ml of Majirel =15ml creme peroxide.

You will also need decent gloves, a plastic tint bowl and tint brush. You can pick these up for pennies in Superdrug and reuse.

The other good news is that once you have got the kit in you can measure out just what you need for root touch ups -so as well has being an excellent dye it is very economical. It mixes to quite a thick texture compared to store dyes so is easier to use.

As a hairdresser I never liked Inoa the Rey coverage was shit.

It’s ammonia free, ammonia in my opinion is essential for hair dye even though it’s damaging.

Anyway I can’t advocate home hair dye but in a salon you can ask for ammonia based dye
