Stretchy work trousers

beeyourself · 11/02/2019 22:43

I need some more work trousers but struggle to find the right ones. I'm a s18-20 but have a huge stomach so fitted trousers don't work for me (if I size up they look ridiculous everywhere else).

What I've had before are thick, fitted jersey trousers that still look smart but have some "give" in them. But obviously I can't find any now that I need them.

Anyone seen any that fit the description? Pockets would be a bonus!

I have recently bought these (no pockets, sadly) as I’m doing a lot of travelling for work and need something that’s comfy enough to sit on a train for a few hours, and still look smart at the other end. I think they look better on that the photos, IYSWIM

Thanks! The only thing that puts me off is the polyester - are they breathable?

I don’t find them too bad, but I don’t wear them every day. It’s hard to find something with “give” that still looks smart Sad

I've got some ponte treggings from ASDA. They do all the colours, black, navy and a kind of dark grey check pattern. The black ones have zip pockets.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 12/02/2019 06:48

Hampshire ponte trousers from Boden are good. And have pockets!

CadburysTastesVileNow · 12/02/2019 06:49

I think they come in a variety of lengths and leg shapes. I have the straight, full length ones

justanotherusernameyay · 12/02/2019 06:49

I found some really nice ones from M&S. It was one of their big stores

ATailofTwoKitties · 12/02/2019 06:53

Try googling Landsend Starfish trousers (can’t link from phone).

happystory · 12/02/2019 06:58

Black ponte trousers from Wallis for me. These are the holy grail, I agree, I work with children but have to be smart casual. It wasn't until I discovered 'ponte' was what I should be searching before they I found them!

Annabk · 12/02/2019 09:08

I recently bought a pair of these in H&M and they were so perfect I ordered 3 more on the website m2.hm.com/m/en_gb/productpage.0642437008.html
They are ankle length so look good with brogues.

auberginesrus · 12/02/2019 12:32

Similar size and shape to you OP, I've just bought some stretchy tweedy ones from Sainsbury's (sadly no pockets but only £16), and have some great ones from Uniqlo which do have pockets and look v smart. Will see if I can find links.

auberginesrus · 12/02/2019 12:36

These Discuss ones (belt comes off and they look fine under a longer top)

auberginesrus · 12/02/2019 12:41

Sorry that should say Sainsbury's ^ (preview not working on my phone). Here are the Uniqlo ones, mine are XXL. I'll probably but done more in another colour as the fabric is lovely

Generally cotton is not stretchy, so you have a choice of polyester, lycra, nylon or non stretch.

beeyourself · 12/02/2019 19:12

Thanks all - some great options to try! I love the look of the Boden ones - typically the most expensive...

OP posts:
HisBetterHalf · 13/02/2019 20:40

The Boden are really comfortable

HaventGotAllDay · 14/02/2019 06:16

I had a long conversation once about Boden Hampshire v Boden Richmond (my life is that thrilling!!) with a lovely Boden customer service person and (can't remember why) opted for Richmonds. Love them for work, though they do bag at the knee after a day.
I am in the same boat OP and have been looking at Jigsaw trousers which I might try.
Next have what look like good semi smart work trousers and I ordered about 4 different kinds. Should have reminded myself that Next looks good in a photo, not bad in a shop, then you put it on and it's like wearing cardboard. Hideous things, all went back.

caesio · 14/02/2019 06:29

I bought these Ponte trousers from M&S last week that look like smart trousers but feel like leggings. And only £15. No pockets tho.

Can't comment on how they wash/wear as only just got them.

PirateWeasel · 14/02/2019 06:58

OMG so glad I found this thread! Have been looking for elasticated waist SMART trousers that won't make me look 82 for aaaages!

KatharinaRosalie · 14/02/2019 08:51

Those are more pricey, but I have several pairs. Super smart, wash beautifully and have not lost shape at all even after heavy wear. As comfy as yoga pants - I often wear them for travelling when I need to go straight from an overnight flight to office.
