Beautiful earrings

I love these but they are so expensive and they're only gold-plated, can anybody point me in the direction of some earrings that are nearly as beautiful but not as expensive

Olivia Burton has some similar, they aren't as delicate though. Don't know how to do a link on my phone but just Google Olivia Burton earrings! They stock her line in john lewis.

I like these too, I like that they're not gold plated, so you're getting something for your money! But the design is far more classic

Nothing in particular on the olivia burton website grabs me, not at the moment anyway, but it does look like nice stuff. I'd look again.

Personally I think they're worth the price. They're handmade, from a small brand, and really unusual.

If you like whimsical pieces though, maybe look at Les Nereides?

Libby Jane does lots of Bee and structural jewellery but it's all sterling silver. She has posted photos of sold gold before so I think will make them as a request but it would porbaby be £££ for solid gold.

And tbh, the Alex Monroe (and Libby Jane) ones are very reasonable prices since they are handmade by skilled jewellers.

If you love something it's always worth saving for if the price isn't too outrageous. In the past I've bought things which were never quite right as it was the right price and was always looking for substitutes ending up spending more than the expensive item I loved. I've had the Alex Monroe bee necklace for eight years and still love it.

@fashiondevotee, and @zaraW yes, I'm better off waiting a while and then splurging properly on what I actually want, not compromising and buying something a bit less expensive. At the risk of being lynched here I don't count the 21 pound earrings.

I love designer jewellers. I also love Alan Ardiff, Garret Mallon, Sabine Lenz, Martina Hamilton & her gold 'bean ri' earrings, I'm in love., Alex Monroe is particularly love-worthy. I do love them and what they produce is 'art' imo, art to wear. it's not that i'm knocking the price, I just have to pay bills time when I'm going to treat myself with a big birthday. I'd find it very sad to buy something gold plated and for the gold plating to wear off because I'd worn them every day from LOVE and then end up with something that goes green in my ear!

I used to (well, probably still do) think Alex Monroe ragingly over-priced, until I saw one of their bee necklaces. They are definitely a cut above in detail, and look very beautiful.

Save up for your originals later, OP, I bet they're gorgeous.

Wow, that french website 'les nereides' they are offering something a bit different. I don't like all of it but I do love a cute pair of flamingo earrings !

Gold plated doesn't mean it's always plated over a cheap metal.

For most designer jewellers, it's gold plated over stealing silver. So if the gold rubs off, you won't turn green. And you can have them replated for not much money.

And gold vermeill, by definition, is sterling silver plated with 22-24k gold. It's not a crappy, green-skin-making metal underneath. So with Alex Munroe stuff and similar, you're safe with gold plating.

So you're paying sterling silver prices for gold look jewellery. If those were solid gold, they'd be hundreds of pounds.

Oh is that what Vermeil is? I didn't know that. I thought it was some new gold colour material. I bought a pair of Juvi earrings a while ago, they were Vermeil (and lovely) but after about four months of wearing them every day, the coating has worn off.

I’m big into jewellery and have lots of gold vermeil and have had to have some piece re-done after a lot of wear. But the layer is thicker than classic gold plating so they should really last longer (if done properly!). So don’t let it scare you off buying it; it’s basically a way to guarantee than precious metal materials have been used but you don’t need to pay a fortune for solid gold. I’d be careful on places like Etsy though, as people might use the term loosely.

Oh thanks for the information. This is interesting. The Juvi Vermeil earrings didn't last that long but I think I saw on the site that if I send the earrings back to them, they re -plate them.
