Smart trousers without saggy knees

I have been searching for this holy grail for what seems like forever.

I'd like something in black or navy (ideally in both colours), with pockets, that I can tuck a shirt or blouse in to, but crucially won't bag/sag/balloon at the knees.

I'd look at cigarette pants as well as wide legs. Any ideas, S&B'ers?

Why doesn't this seem to happen to men's trousers? Grrrrrr.

Have you looked at Boden? - a friend has some of their smart trousers and they look great. She is a v stylish dresser. Some stretch in them, which might help with reducing knee baggyness. Lots of styles/lengths/fit. I often look at them in the catalogue but never actually buy any... sigh... Smile

Agree, Boden Richmond trousers are always recommended for avoiding baggy knees. I'd wait for a sale or a 20% discount code, though. They come around regularly.

WhatWouldPennyDo · 04/02/2019 07:56

Thanks both! I have a couple of pairs of Boden trousers but find I have knee 'marks' in them by the time I get off my train in the morning. I've even tried in a bigger size but then they don't sit well elsewhere. Perhaps I just have very pointy knees!

I bought some of the Richmond trousers from Boden with high hopes but they go out of shape so quickly, it's ridiculous. I wash them and they start the right size and then by lunchtime they look at least one size too big for me. Also purchased the M&S version that everyone on here recommends. Also shit.

Sorry I've no help for you OP but I'm marking my place in the hope that someone has advice. I've tried Zara, Boden, H+M, Banan Republic, Mango. My sis swears by Zara but I found them to be shit. In fairness H+M 'slacks' aren't bad. And Gap - they were skinny and v good actually but I think they're a tiny bit dated now.

I'm planning on finding a decent pair and splashing out. Well. Reiss. Not Stela or anything, but sort of splashing out. I'm shoppin next week. If I find anything I'll post.

If the trousers are unlined, that's possibly a reason for the bagging. Skirts are lined to avoid this, so would wearing a lining help? I've just done a quick online search for trouser slips and whilst they're not a commonly worn garment, it might help.

uniqlo do tons that are reasonably priced and keep their shape

Livy178 · 04/02/2019 16:07

I buy black skinny taper trousers from next and I think they are great

WhatWouldPennyDo · 04/02/2019 18:44

Sounds like it's a common problem, @Elledorado and @championquartz.

@Dandilionbreak - had no idea that trouser slips were a thing, thank you!

Will have a look at John Lewis and Uniqlo, thanks folks.

@Livy, what's the fabric like, please? I haven't been in a Next in a while as I was put off by the shiny black fabric previously.

There's two aspects. Some brands are better than other (Gap is the best of my wardrobe) but I think going down a size might help as well.

Laradc · 05/02/2019 17:47

These come in navy and black. I have a pair, great quality and fit and you can remove the ribbon.

I bought some from fenn wright Manson in the sale, they're navy and have an elasticated waist (I know sounds hideous) but they're quite nice.

JaceLancs · 05/02/2019 21:51

M & S trousers are terrible for this for me
I sit at desk part of day then go out to meetings and meet clients - very hard on not getting baggy knees
I bought some max studio ones from John Lewis that were ok and Adrienne vittadini from tkmaxx - think they might be a tkmaxx own label
