And in case you get bored of the royals or they're having a quiet week, here's the Celebrity S&G thread!

Remember, let's critique the clothes without getting too personal about the wearers.

I like Meghan's look tonight! She looks relaxed and comfortable as well as stylish. Gorgeous face as usual.

queenofarles · 07/02/2019 21:30

Or channeling Carolina Herrera ?

The closeup picks on Instagram shows a weird uneven waistband , I really think it's a dress , maybe the White shirt is a last minute addition? Perhaps something was wrong with the top fit,

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/02/2019 21:30

@Notanotheruser111 Yes, Sharon Stone at the Oscars also sprang to mind.

Not entirely sure about tonight's outfit.
Here's Sharon Stone & Julia Roberts in their versions 20 yrs ago.

Photos didn't post originally so that's why there are duplicates.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/02/2019 21:36

Julia's is only from a few years ago and I wasn't a fan of the look. But Sharon looked fabulous!

Love the shoes (as usual!) But hate the rest of the outfit, proportions are totally wrong imo. She's beautiful but this just does nothing for her.

Daisypie · 07/02/2019 21:53

There's something weird about the whole collar of the shirt. Looks kind of flat and crooked. Don't like the outfit .

certainlymerry · 07/02/2019 21:56

Her face is lovely but its hard to look that awful in Givenchy.

LaurenOrdering · 07/02/2019 21:59

I wasn't sure when Julia wore her outfit so just presumed it was the same vintage. I'll do my research more properly next time Grin

EstrellaDamn · 07/02/2019 22:07

I'm just glad to see her look comfortable, relaxed and happy. The outfit is fine!

BeautifulComicalThings · 07/02/2019 22:09

I think she’s going for minimalist (no earrings!) but the overall look is very harsh/scraped back and quite unflattering. IMO her hair looks beautiful down!

Gonegrey31 · 07/02/2019 22:18

She is wearing small gold and diamond earrings. I think she looks lovely!

ElspethFlashman · 07/02/2019 22:29

The shirt part doesn't even fit. It fits around the boobs but is massive around the back and the shoulders and under the arms.

I think the whole thing is just so inelegant.

I get what she was going for, it's a Givenchy-does-Donna Karan thing. But you need to be as skinny as a rail to carry off a man's shirt in a cute way. I really really don't think the 3rd trimester is the time to try this look out.

AdaColeman · 07/02/2019 22:37

I'm not keen on Meghan's outfit tonight, it all looks a bit cobbled together, can't believe it's Givenchy!

Bubastes · 07/02/2019 22:40

I'm not a fan of that outfit either. It doesn't do anything for a pregnancy bump just reminds me of that 'argh. I'm so massive all I can fit into is my partner's baggy tops' feeling. Pregnancy fashion hasn't been Meghan Markle's friend!

Also how amazing does Sharon Stone look in that photo? Julia Roberts on the other hand gets a big thumbs down. She looks like a Mormon fashion blogger whose 'speciality' is is modest dressing. 'Worried about showing cleavage in your strapless dress, well then just pop a button down shirt on underneath it.'

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/02/2019 22:53

It wasn't Julia's best style moment but, IIRC, that was the year her sister died (possibly by her own hand?) so I imagine clothes were the last thing on her mind.

Another wierd thing - it wasn't a full length occasion? The other women are wearing just naice frocks. She wore trousers last year.

Such an odd outfit all around, really.

@eholmes kinda hated it. Love her. She always has a nuanced view.

Notmyrealname855 · 07/02/2019 23:03

Can’t believe it’s Givenchy! Looks like Matalan brought out a Caroline Bessette range! Also spending so much money again. I’m so bored of her stylists throwing money and hoping something sticks, it’s boring

AFifthOfKoolAid · 07/02/2019 23:07

Almost comforting to see even loaded, well-connected women struggle with maternity wear.

Speaking of which, I enjoy this little montage of Maternity Kate (who didn't seem to struggle!). She looks gorgeous in the white coat in the bottom row, 60s eleganza. I also like the polka and grey dresses, and the pistachio number in the middle (that almost looks like a tribute to Liz). Block colour is the way to go.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 07/02/2019 23:10

Is full length not allowed if it's not a full length occasion? I don't know about this level of etiquette. It's not like she appeared dripping in diamonds. Many women I have known have steered clear of trousers in late pregnancy because it's a huge faff. I don't see what the relevance of her wearing trousers last year is. I don't love this look but she seems comfortable.

UrsulaPandress · 07/02/2019 23:11

Love that montage with Kate touching her bump in every pic.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/02/2019 23:39

Urrghh i think that outfit is ghastly. (Incredibly high heels look a bit odd when heavily pregnant too) .The two sections look so strange together, it is hard to work out what is going on. I think Meghan had a very safe, “sexy”, American style and can’t shift that to royal dressing. Throw in being very pregnant and it all goes wrong. She seems to be in totally different looks all the time but none of them are working with her shape at all. She seems to have no coats actually tailored for a bump. I agree she needs proper maternity wear. She is small and short waisted, naturally she has a straight, relatively waistless torso, and that is a hard shape to dress when pregnant. Taller women can sail about elegantly, especially if they have a very front facing bump, but even if you are tall, this stage of pregnancy is hard and needs simplicity to look good. I had two really flattering evening dresses when pregant, both were very plain but lovely fabric.

itswinetime · 08/02/2019 00:06

I don't think she needs to fit to a 'royal'
Way of dressing why should she? I don't think everyone should have to conform to that traditional slightly dated look. I think her overall style will end up closer to the European royals. Which I think is fab. I agree that I think being pregnant she has struggled to find her grove but then don't a lot of people. I don't think she wants to change her signature look. If you look at kate (lovely montage thanks for sharing)her overall look didn't really change when pregnant I'm not sure if that's body shap or just that long coats and a-line dresses are a very forgiving cut. I think Meghan is just trying to dress as she knows and always has but hers doesn't work so well when pregnant.

I think tweeks need to be made in particular more familiarity and the use of British designers and high street would be good but no reason she can't do that and still have a style of her own.

If I owned and could walk in shoes like that I'd wear them pregnant, to Tesco's any excuse I love her shoe collection. Wink
