Do you contour?

Do you contour or is it just for teenagers? I’m wondering if I’m missing a trick. If you do it well what products do you use?

I've never contoured it's something very few people do well especially teenagers. It's not as popular as it was.

BettyJJ · 02/02/2019 12:06

Don't see much contouring nowadays. Died out couple of years ago.

AliceRR · 02/02/2019 12:08

Yes I do and I think a lot of people probably do but you dont necessarily see it if it’s don’t subtlet, which it should be for real life

Dimsumlosesum · 02/02/2019 12:08

No.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 02/02/2019 12:08

I do slightly with a darker shade powder along my nose and cheeks etc and blend well but not not the full contour that you see on YouTube because that looks great on my teenagers not so much on my crap 43 year old face

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/02/2019 12:08

It’s for no one, not even teenagers, but except ballet dancers and actors and fashion photography.

A bit of matte bronzer does the same thing.

AliceRR · 02/02/2019 12:08

I really like benefit hoola.

I have been using a Nars Laguna bronzing powder and a Nars contour powder (both of which I have in a cheek palette) but prefer Hoola

O4FS · 02/02/2019 12:09

Do i fuck.

Life is far too short for all that dibby-dabbing stuff. I’m lucky if I get a brush through my hair most days.

rainflowerstar · 02/02/2019 12:09

I would have no idea where to start.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 02/02/2019 12:10

I put my blusher just under my cheekbones and a little highlighter above them, under my eyes and on my temples. I don't use any bronzer type stuff though so not really contouring, and it's very subtle.

FromDespairToHere · 02/02/2019 12:11

Oooh a S&B thread I can join in on!

I do, but not very much. I have a contour palette - just a boots one with highlighter and lowlighter. I use the lowlighter under my cheekbones - where there would be a hollow if my face wasn't fat - and then a bit of blusher on my cheeks. I use the highlighter more on my eyes just under my brow line.

I did try to do the full contour thing at first but I just looked my face had been drawn by a child. Some of the younguns at work do the full thing buy they're the ones who are very shiny iykwim.

I'm not very stylish or beautiful though (hence being excited about actually being able to join in!) so I may not be the best person to be giving advice...

punishmepunisher · 02/02/2019 12:13

I can hardly be arsed to shave my legs and prune the ladygarden.

Theunreasonableone · 02/02/2019 12:17

No. I’ve got some contouring stuff that my mum bought me when it was a ‘thing’ a few years ago. I’ve never used it. I just don’t think it looks good (makes the face look dirty IMO) and especially not good on a 38 year old me. I do like blusher and a bit of highlighter though.

youvegottobekidding · 02/02/2019 12:35

I do a very subtle contour, I have to as I have a really really round, full cheek face, with no definition of my jawline, that kind of blurs into my neck! I still look like a hamster on photos though (not that there are many photos of me, just the odd ones that work sometimes try to get of me!) I suppose with a full contour I may resemble a human, but I'm afraid to try it myself as I'd end up looking ridiculously clown like and I don't like the feel of heavy make up on my face anyway, as I'm mid 40's and the more make up on, the more older I think I look.

teetotalling · 02/02/2019 14:58

No. I apply blusher- pink or brown depending on the mood. I put it in a sweep under the cheekbones. Then, if I remember, or if it's an important occasion, I pop some highlighter powder on top of cheekbones.

Is this right, does anyone think?

I think with age (I'm about 40) you don't really need to accentuate the hollows even further??

Skinfulnappies46 · 02/02/2019 15:05

No! Have just about the me for the basics and I think it looks really unnatural even though my own teenage daughters do. Each to their own and if you enjoy it, go for it!

Skinfulnappies46 · 02/02/2019 15:05

*time (not me )

Boyskeepswinging · 02/02/2019 15:13

makes the face look dirty IMO
Absolutely. I remember when contouring was a big thing and whenever we were out my DH kept saying "Why have all these young women got such dirty faces?"
It doesn't seem quite so prevalent now. Maybe people got wind of the fact that it does look odd IRL, even if it does look great on screen?

LostInShoebiz · 02/02/2019 15:16

I’m wondering if I’m missing a trick.

Only if you want to look like a robot that’s been half dipped in Bisto.

Very few people do it well, most people only look good with it in well lit photos and the vast majority end up looking 50% metallic, 50% muddy puddle, 100% ridiculous.

Save your time, money and dignity.

creamcheeseandlox · 02/02/2019 17:27

Young uns don't get that contouring has been around for years. Originally for stage and screen and fashion photography which is why it looks ridiculous when fully done on a girl who's in McDonald's on a Saturday.
I use a bit of hoola on my cheekbones for a bit of definition that's it.

Beerflavourednipples · 02/02/2019 19:11

I only do it if I as am going out out and doing a proper full face. I use Illamasqua 'heroine' eyeshadow to do it - there are probably cheaper products but Nikkie tutorials recommended it and it was back when I had more money to spunk and it is a great colour for contouring my pale face!

I only do my cheekbones and jawline though, I don't go in for the nose contouring etc

MrsWolfe · 02/02/2019 21:55

I do but not with your usual grey based cool tones. I'm quite fair so I'll whack some Benefit chocolate bronzer where I would usually contour, blush a bit on top and a lovely highlight and it's enough to shape my face while not making me look like the cryptkeeper.

AliceRR · 02/02/2019 22:01

@MrsWolfe Do you mean Bourjois or Too Faced chocolate bronzer? I don’t know a Benefit one 🤔
