Hi fashionistas!!!

I'm trying to get out of a style rut where I always wear jeans out. I have decent legs but can never find a skirt where I don't feel dull in. I wear bright colours on top so liked this but is it blah? I'm a size 14/16

How about this

Looks a bit like school uniform to me, sorry.

dontgobaconmyheart · 01/02/2019 23:50

its a nice skirt and i like it, but yes i think it's quite plain. Absolutely nothing wrong with that but it does give off workwear vibes to me. I also think plain bright colours and black are less flattering than (well matched) colour with other colour, it looks less severe.

With that said if you scroll down to the "styled by you" whoever that is looks bloody great in it in that striped top, but doesn't it look way shorter on her than the model! I feel your pain OP, am trying to find a midi skirt at the moment to hop on board the trend and just can't find the right one. Asos are going to get sick of me returning them in a minute and give me the boot!

Oddcat · 01/02/2019 23:51

I like it. I wore a skirt today for the first time in ages ( normally wear jeans or work uniform) and I felt much better! It was just a black skirt, cream jumper, thick tights and boots- felt all sophisticated Grin

Eesha · 01/02/2019 23:59

@dontgobaconmyheart I agree about black plus bright colours but I guess I was looking for a one size fits all look. Just a nice flattering skirt I can wear with all my stuff and ankle boots

Looks like an awkward silhouette. I would opt for something neater. Clean cut lines and no fussy belts.

halfwitpicker · 02/02/2019 01:09

I really like it.

It looks very versatile, you could dress it up or down, tights in winter and a polo neck, little top and sandals in summer etc.

ShopoholicIn · 02/02/2019 08:32

First response.. it's a school girls outfits

HundredMilesAnHour · 02/02/2019 09:11

It's not very exciting. I used to wear something similar as part of my uniform when I was waitressing / working behind a bar. It's definitely workwear rather than 'going out' wear.

Eesha · 02/02/2019 09:17

Ok too boring, argh, where to find a nice going out skirt!!

OP posts:
Frenchcroissant · 02/02/2019 10:13

What about a leather one?

Eesha · 02/02/2019 12:37

I do like leather but find they are either too short or too long and frumpy. Was thinking coated pencil skirts from Next?

OP I have this one https://www.hush-uk.com/megruchedskirtdecorativeprint.htm?trackterm=Meg
It may not be your style but it's a very versatile skirt that I have worn dresses down with DM's or flat ankle boots but also with high heel boots for a night out. Easily styled with a simple black top or jumper and looks great with a biker jacket. And it's super cheap in the sale at the moment.

Ellapaella · 02/02/2019 12:56

Sorry try again

Sorry don't know why links are working. It's this one - search for Meg skirt on Hush

Sparkletastic · 02/02/2019 12:58

I really like it. Simple but stylish and will look great with a bright top.

livs1987 · 02/02/2019 13:18

It looks like workwear, boring and basic workwear at that. It’s not something I would gravitate towards for going out! However if you like it and find it flattering, then fair enough!

Maybe you need to try more trendy shops. Skirts that are trending right now:

  • animal print midi/maxi
  • satin midi/maxi
  • skirts with side slits at the hem
  • mini skirts (worn with tights if necessary)
  • leather
  • denim in various shades/lengths
  • printed skirts in general eg floral for spring
  • skirts with an asymmetric hem

Other options for a more flattering fit could be wrap skirts or something with a ruching/bandage detail.

That May skirt looks perfect, will buy. I have never shopped Hush before. This was another I found, boring?

@livs1987 where's trendy these days, I seem to just look at RI, Oasis, Topshop and Asos. My only worry with skirts is that I always wear bright tops so needed a nice skirt to nor look weird/clashy

cushioncuddle · 02/02/2019 20:32

I like it a lot.
