winter exercise leggings?

I try to get out and walk for at least an hour each dry day. I find it helps a lot with my mental health and it's a great chance to stick a podcast on and relax.

These last few days have been incredibly cold, -5c this morning but bright and sunny. My top half is fine as I have jackets and a bobble hat but my legs get SO cold. I have thin running legging type things which are comfortable and unrestrictive but I come home with red, mottled legs.

Are winter running/walking leggings a thing? And if so, where can I get some from which won't cost a small fortune?

They are stupidly expensive but I wear the Sweaty Betty reversible double thickness for running. For walking the dog, I wear a pair of primark fleece lined leggings under jogging bottoms.

Lots of rave reviews about their winter designs on the FB community:

I have their non-winter designs and they are brilliant quality and patterns.
Buyers of the winter range have posted man rave reviews on the FB page.

I have RonHill winter running tights which have lovely fleecy inside - have a search on SportsShoes.com for winter tight and there are a few brands. The Asics ones are reduced to £20

The sturdy by design ones are a bit wacky for me.. was really looking for something plain black/navy. DD would disown me if I went out wearing snowmen.

I’ve got decathlon fleece lined ones on now, very warm and they aren’t too expensive.

BigGreenOlives · 01/02/2019 11:25

I wear Sweaty Betty winter running leggings, they have a fleecy lining. I used to have a Nike pair but they’ve worn out. The SB ones are really cosy, expensive but worth the outlay if you are going to wear them for an hour 4-5 times a week.

Thanks for the recommendations :-)

Go to tk max they’ll have some in.

Bombardier25966 · 01/02/2019 11:33

Under Armour do excellent thermal leggings.

You don't need to pay silly Sweaty Betty prices!

Peridot1 · 01/02/2019 11:53

I got some plain black thick ones from Simply Be or JD Williams.

Other option might be to wear two pairs?

I have some Nike winter running leggings. Nice and warm

MacarenaFerreiro · 01/02/2019 14:40

Just back from TK Maxx where I got a pair of Under Armour ones in the sale!!

However, I also managed to leave with a Le Creuset salt and pepper set, a new Sistema drinks bottle for DS, a scented candle and a pair of pillowcases.

Grin. I always do that in TK Maxx!

Calvinsmam · 01/02/2019 15:33

I also have a little cry in the changing rooms as their lights are so unflattering!!

normal leggings with waterproof trousers over the top are fab for warmth and will keep you dry should the snow re start
