Pretty and very warm big coat recommendations?

I want to hit the sales, about to have a snowy holiday away and I need a much warmer coat. Last year on a similar holiday I hated all the photos because I just look like a potato from all the layers and my ugly grey coat which wasn’t even that warm!

I’ve checked Joules, sale is rubbish for coats, they’re all overpriced in my opinion. What has worked for you this winter?

When you say cold, does it need to be practical, snow/rain proof, have a hood etc? Or are you going on a city break or something somewhere cold (and can get away with something less practical). I have a lovely grey-lilac faux fur coat from Whistles which is super warm... but not waterproof!

MooPointCowsOpinion · 31/01/2019 23:02

Definitely waterproof and a hood, probably going to snow a lot.

This is the holy grail for me. I think if you want it to be genuinely warm and waterproof, it's never going to be pretty as well!

BikeRunSki · 01/02/2019 08:00

The The Coat Company lots of brands there.

If you want seriously warm, price no object, not horrifically ugly, look at Patagonia also this one. Make sure you like it though, because it will last you forever.

In that case, I really like Parka London coats. I have one with an inner bomber and a waterproof outer, it was very warm when I was on holiday last year (sub zero temperatures and snow) and waterproof. They have a few different ones and some in the Asos sale at the mo.

Swiftier · 01/02/2019 08:40

Quite a few in the sale on the Parka London site actually.

I also really rate Parka London too. I bought one heavily reduced in the sale last year and it’s brilliant. I can wear a t shirt underneath it and still feel warm enough in the current weather popping in and out.

Can't be done. I live in Canada and have never seen anyone look stylish in a winter coat.

NigellasGuest
What coat do you recommend - there was no link in your post

BikeRunSki · 01/02/2019 20:00

I think @NigellasGuest meant that she is still looking for this holy grail of coats.

beanaseireann · 01/02/2019 20:05

Thank you BikeRunSki
I thought she meant she'd found it when she wrote "This is the holy grail for me.........."

NigellasGuest · 01/02/2019 20:07

@BikeRunSki is correct- I don't believe there is any such thing!

Babygrey7 · 01/02/2019 20:10

I have had compliments on my Esprit belted down parka

Warm and snug, but nice fitted shape

MooPointCowsOpinion · 02/02/2019 08:54
