Seems to me that Anna Hart is on both sides of the fence here. On the one hand she runs an agency which works with influencers and brands yet on the other she runs a blog and is herself an influencer. That article was clearly coming from the agency side written for influencers. However it's appears that we consumers, just like Janet, are nothing more than a laughing stock for not only the influencers but the ASA and CMA.

TBF I have met some people from the CMA - laughing isn't really their thing

MarshaBradyo · 06/02/2019 16:04

I doubt many are laughing, why would they it’s their jobs after all

Influencers might be annoyed but so what

Pointless ‘Janet’ posts just stir it further

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 06/02/2019 16:36

To say the CMA put these guidelines together as a "quick way to limit noise" is an incredible assertion. The review was begun back in August and follows on from work they did in 2016. The CMA obviously see that the industry is problematic and to suggest that a government body bangs out a leaflet on a whim to satisfy a few people moaning on mumsnet is ridiculous. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the people at ASA find complaints tedious and frivolous to deal with, but ASA have the industry's best interests at heart, not consumers really, and I am sure the people at the top are actually fairly anxious about what direction the industry is going in and their reputation as an effective (or otherwise) regulator.

MarshaBradyo · 06/02/2019 16:51

I have no doubt ASA take the direction of consumer society seriously otherwise why work there - well other than the usual people who just find themselves in a job but I doubt they’re running it

Popcorninapot · 06/02/2019 17:27

Even in the unlikely event that is the reason behind closed doors I don't think they would want it to be published on a blog! Tad unprofessional!

MarshaBradyo · 06/02/2019 17:39

Does she work there?

Still can’t bring myself to read it had a look at her IG and that was irritating enough ;

hopeishere · 06/02/2019 18:19

Anna Harte owns one roof social. She's not a SAHM though she's single (I think) no kids.

Itsautumn · 06/02/2019 18:47

Referring to followers, who are at the end of the day your bread and butter, as 'Janets' is highly offence. The arrogance is staggering.

MarshaBradyo · 06/02/2019 18:50

It really is
And since ‘influencers’ are already a blurt on society the idea that they are above the people that earn them their crust is so stupid.

wouldyoulikeabagwiththat · 06/02/2019 18:54

I keep finding other nuggets when I re-read it. This, on affiliate links is a corker:

The guidelines are very murky over what they consider acceptable practice for disclosing affiliate links. We find this incredibly disappointing as from a professional perspective the suggestions reek of a lack of research, which is a shame when so many businesses and experts would happily help them.

Yes, if only ASA had published some non murky guidelines on affiliate marketing....

TheLucky Who was the influencer who used colour font. I would like to unfollow her too if I haven’t already!

MaryPoppinjay · 06/02/2019 19:21

Emma Hill is a masterclass in how to conduct yourself as a professional influencer (see where she’s coming from with regard to her poll although think the answer was always going to be a flawed as many followers answering may potentially want a ticket to the influencer gravy train). Instead of haranguing and attempting to bully her, other influencers would do well to take some guidance from somebody clearly trying to follow guidelines and be respectful of her followers.

As an influencer and owner of an influencer business Anna Hart is so incredibly self invested in the question she should never have been asked to provide an answer. Extremely disappointed in the FT - they should be looking at people like Nik Speller for an educated and objective opinion on the matter.

scotx · 06/02/2019 19:22

Was it everyone's new favourite Instamum with the funny husband? Fair play to her for getting on the bandwagon and monetizing her account but she's not off to a great start. (White font white background hide the disclosure text.)

Even after the updated Influencer's Guide published Sept 18, AH refused to mark affiliate marketing. She would add link after link on Twitter/Instagram without marking them an #ad. People did complain. Just seems strange to be advising people if you not even following the rules yourself.

Peaches100 · 06/02/2019 19:59

Also a few of the influencers (fashion) have reported contacting the ASA/CMA directly and have since been marking their affiliate marketing with #AD.

Maybe it would be wise to contact the correct authority directly rather than just reading the information & coming up with your own interpretation.

Just a thought..

OrnamentalDiamond · 06/02/2019 20:07

Anna’s opinion on disclosure can never be objective. As far as I’m aware she doesn’t have a legal background, so she is a self appointed expert rather than a trained expert.

(And my previous comment wasn’t very nice to SAHM. Blush Anna has access to all sorts of stylish brands and products, but generally looks like a crumpled mess.)

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 06/02/2019 20:22

@Peaches100 which post is that reply to from Emma Hill?

SuperstarDJ · 06/02/2019 20:36

Ginger the post where EH is wearing the cream blazer. Yesterday I think.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 06/02/2019 20:39

Found it! Gave her my first and probably only comment on an influencers post Grin

Peaches100 · 06/02/2019 20:43

Ginger - post is 2 days ago, brown coat.

I wasn't sure whether to copy the post, but it has already been posted to 460,000 followers. Also think it is important to acknowledge if someone is getting grief by trying to be transparent.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 06/02/2019 20:50

Yes EH is brilliant actually, she also said on this post “I understand why just a “no strings” is seen as advertising, because it is!”

I can’t remember who did the text matching the sweatshirt colour in an attempt to hide it....

I do think this is a non issue for those who create proper content, in fact I think they are gaining followers by being transparent.

ThreeFourFive · 06/02/2019 20:51

Bah, can't find the instamum with the funny husband or the Emma Hill post.
