Balayage or a few subtle highlights

Going to get my hair done tonight, it's currently dyed mid brown (naturally fair in colour) so need a root touch up, not sure if I should go for a nice caramel balayage or a few subtle foils through to lift it a bit? Can bayalage be done so that it's fairly subtle and not pure blonde at the ends?

More importantly which is easier to keep? I go to the hairdressers every 8 weeks roughly. All spam photos of hairstyles accepted and in fact encouraged Grin

I had a balayage for years and it’s so easy to maintain and I loved it.
Then my hairdresser convinced me to get highlights and even though I said I didn’t want stripes she gave me really bad stripes and I’m having to grow it out Confused
I would go for a balayage, I only had to get mine done every 3 months.
