Morning,

Could you all help me out? My DD20 has an assessment day for a vacation scheme with one of the magic circle law firms. I need to buy her a suit for it. It needs to be quite conservative but, equally, in her words , she doesn't want it look like she is wearing my clothes Hmm. We do have access to a couple of large Northern cities - she doesn't really want to buy from the internet - does anyone have any suggestions as to wear to go for young officewear?

She's 5' 6, size 10/12 but a bit conscious of her bottom and thighs so would prefer a skirt/dress

Thank you.

That should be fairly easy, I'd think? If she prefers dresses, I'd get her a black shift dress (a perennial classic for all ages) and a blazer to go with it. A skirt suit is rather frumpy but dress + jacket would pass muster at all but the most backwards of workplaces, and TBH firms are usually well aware that 20yos on vacation schemes do not have wardrobes full of professional workwear. And a matching trouser suit is a rather dated look as well. All she has to do is to look neat and like she understands the general boundaries of work dressing - they aren't expecting razor-sharp.

Take her to a John Lewis or similar and pick out something from one of the many brands they stock - you could even get her a free appointment with a personal stylist who will find her something.
