Inversion method. Does it work and does it work without oil?

My hairdresser has cut layers at the front round my face which I hate. I was chatting away and she asked if I wanted layers putting in which I normally do but they are too far back like a 45 degree angle. I hate it. Does the inversion method work? Will it work without oil as my hair needs washing every two days anyway!

Sorry, I can't picture what's gone wrong.... if you could post a picture (face blacked/blurred out of you prefer) would help.

It's hard to show on a photo but the gradient is too sloping. So she has cut more hair shorter towards my ears rather than just feathering around the front of my face.
