Best Style and Beauty tip you discovered in 2018?

What was the best style and beauty thing that you discovered / implemented in 2018?

Mine is having a proper bra fitting, turns out I needed 4 cup sizes bigger than I’d been wearing. I can’t stop raving about how amazing my new bras feel and they’ve made a big difference to how my clothes look. I can’t believe I put up with rubbish, uncomfortable bras for so long!

I’m wondering what other things I’ve been missing out on!

For me it has to be skin care serum.

I hadn't tried any because I imagined them to be gloopy and sticky. Then i was given a bottle of hyaluronic acid serum and I was amazed! The difference in my skin is so noticeable and I'm thrilled. My skin is much more hydrated, lines are softer and my skin looks firmer. I'm converted!

Decent basic skincare routine with SPF + gradually build in actives + time and patience

dudsville · 30/01/2019 11:04

What about products we've tried that didn't live you to the hype?
Beauty flash balm. Ok. Nothing to write home about.
That egg shaped sponge applicator that's supposed to be used damp. Fingers are better.
Babyliss big hair was a big faff. I can go from wet to blow driex and settled in 10 min with a hair dryer and tongs. Likewise the heated hair brush thing. Both went to charity.
The things that impressed me this past year were seche vitte and EA8hr skin protector. I'm also quite liking what ive tried on Aveda so far, and I'm a big fan of ELDW, both the regular and the camouflage versions.

Acids. I have sensitive skin so I never even considered them. Started with Paula's Choice, then found this one:

My skin was fine before, but BHA/AHA have made such a difference that I get constant compliments for my glowing complexion.

Mac lipstick.

Smashbox liquid lip. Physicians formula butter bronzer ... I think I have said same thing on a similar thread about best/worst beauty finds of 2018 (was a while back, will see if I can find it for you! Smile)

Seche Vite has been a game changer for me.

Skincare wise the discovery of Hyaluronic Acid and Vit C has been great for my face!

Mixing my spf containing moisturiser with foundation to make tinted moisturiser.

Getting a proper curly hair cut from someone who knows what they are doing, and following the curly girl method. Massive difference to my hair.

SuzeD29 · 30/01/2019 15:30

Ditching face cleanser and oil cleansing instead. Proper bra fitting (up 3 cup sizes which still amazes me). Started using a BHA exfoliant which has improved my skin loads. Mixing gradual tanner 50/50 with my body lotion makes me look healthier.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 30/01/2019 15:42

Tightlining. It's been a revelation.

And, after some quite expensive trial and error (I'm looking at you Laura Mercier), I've finally settled on this as my product of choice.

Maybelline Matte Ink Liquid lipstick. It is really hardwearing especially the darker shades, and I find it doesn't dry out and wear off unevenly on my lips out like other similar versions (Rimmel, Max Faxtor Lipfinity etc).

Also Dior Diorshow mascara is expensive but there really isn't a better one. Lengthens, plumps up, stretches nicely over eyelashes, doesn't go claggy.

Seche Vite was a great discovery for me too, my nail varnish would chip within 24 hours before but now it lasts a week.

I’ve got Hourglass bronzer, it looks great and it lasts FOREVER!
I like Lipstick Queen too.

Related to both of these, the free makeover service at Space NK. I went for two last year, one for basic daytime makeup and one for evening makeup. The consultants were so good both times; listened to what I wanted, explained the products they were using and showed me how to use them. They weren’t pushy and they didn’t try to convince me to do a fashionable look that wouldn’t suit me. I discovered both Hourglass and Lipstick Queen through these appointments
