Something lovely for a funeral

Noddythefirst · 29/01/2019 16:10

My mother has sadly just passed away. I need something lovely to wear to her funeral in which I feel comfortable (not skin tight and don't want arms showing). It will be a church service but I don't want to be dressed entirely in black as she had a lovely and positive view on life. I'm Size 16, 5ft7 with mousy shoulder-length hair.

So sorry about your mum Flowers

It depends on your style, but it sounds like some of the Hush dresses might work - they tend to be pretty, loose fitting but sober and grown-up enough for a funeral.

ruffle

floral red

I love this, though it's polyester but might be OK for an occasion

BlowholeHat · 29/01/2019 18:48

You could wear a sleeveless one with a pretty cardigan maybe?

SpeckledyHen · 29/01/2019 19:38

That Alice Temperley dress is gorgeous Lucked!

MitziK · 29/01/2019 22:47

Aww, sorry you're having to go through this.

I think this is a lovely dress and you could add colour with a scarf/wrap in your Mum's favourite colours or a flower hair clip?

MitziK · 29/01/2019 22:55

(And the wrap would cover your arms)

Oops that went wrong!

I love the Tempeley dress from John Lewis and also like a lot of the Iris dresses, especially www.irisfashion.co.uk/pyrus-audrey-floral-dress-91781
However, most seem to be maximum size L (size14) whereas I would need a 16.
Budget up to around £250.00.

Here are some I spotted on John Lewis on line
"Kin" sash dress black £85

"Jolie Moi" Roll collar shift dress, navy with white dots, £69

"LK Bennett" Rilea Peter Pan collar dress, navy with red collar, £169 in the sale

I hope you find something that you like, and I'm so sorry that you have lost your Mum. Thanks

BlowholeHat · 30/01/2019 18:12

I'm a 16 and usually get away with an L, especially if it has a loose or elastic waist which I think that audrey dress might do (you could phone them to check?) . It is beautiful.

PETRONELLAS · 30/01/2019 18:18

Phase Eight have some nice black with patterns. www.phase-eight.com/fcp/product/phase-eight/all-clothing/claude-floral-shirt-dress/206053492
Sorry about your mum. I’d definitely be wanting to wear something lovely.

BlowholeHat · 30/01/2019 18:19

At the Pyrus website itself, they seem to have XL:

Noddythefirst · 31/01/2019 18:12

What shoes would you wear with the Pyrus dress?

OP posts:
Lucked · 31/01/2019 19:34

That’s an very dress. I would wear black tight and black ankle sock boots.

Along the lines of these

Lucked · 31/01/2019 19:34

Sorry meant to write - That’s a lovely dress.

BlowholeHat · 31/01/2019 20:34

I’d wear ankle boots like these or it might also look nice with knee boots.
