Hi Ladies,

Looking for some inspiration. I have an evening meal in a couple of weeks in Mayfair, this is going to be a fancy affair and my very first one of its kind.

What dresses would you wear?

Very exciting.

Dress-wise, I think it depends on your body type, what you like and what you feel comfortable in. Midi/knee length dresses tend to be flattering and most women. A ruched middle part of the dress is also flattering.

Shoes-wise, I would opt for some low heels.

Thanks, I'm a size 8-10 larger on bottom than top. I'm short, so normally midi dresses make me look even shorter?

Are we talking properly formal black tie, as in shoulders covered and long? Or are cocktail dresses okay?

PollyEthel · 30/01/2019 11:21

I suppose my real question is how fancy is fancy?!

USER18888 · 30/01/2019 11:35

i wouldn't say fancy black tie fancy, my partner is wearing his waist coat and jacket from his suit, but swapping the trousers for some less formal?

Normally, I would say you can't go wrong with a little black dress but there are so many options!

What's your budget?

I have a black Bardot dress, thanks for the idea I'll wear that!

Bomb Petite might be worth a look for something special. Or at a lower pricepoint ASOS has an enormous selection of petite dresses.
