Sensitive sore scalp

My scalp is really sore and itchy, which doesn't help. Any recommendations for shampoo etc that might help or at least not make it worse?

Philip Kingsley itchy shampoo is good. When you write "sore" do you know why e.g. dye burn?

WonderWoman2019 · 28/01/2019 22:26

You might be best just rinsing with water for as long as possible until it's healed if so

tubspreciousthings · 28/01/2019 22:31

Thanks - not sure why it's sore other than I'm scratching it a lot - I know I need to stop! I think it's stress-related but that's no excuse...

I can't just rinse with water unfortunately- I have oily hair (with dry ends 🙄) and it would look awful.

Well, ive never had this problem before... until a couple of weeks ago when i realised than area of my scalp was indeed angry and itchy and sore. Tried to think of a home remedy one night and decided to rub coconut oil into it (mine was raw, biona stuff for cooking with). I only used a small amount 3 nights and rubbed it in. Could be a coincidence but it instsntly soothed it and no more problems!

I had a really sensitive scalp after months of hyperemesis and dehydration and Aveda scalp benefits shampoo really helped. It’s very gentle but still really cleans and I haven’t had any issues with flaking or itchiness since using it.

AngelinaNeurosurgeon · 29/01/2019 07:16

T-gel shampoo, if the itching is from a build-up of products.
Or might you have nits?

AngelinaNeurosurgeon · 29/01/2019 07:18

Poly tar shampoo is also very good but has a very strong smell and best used when you’ve not got any plans that day or having people over.

I have eczema that spread to my scalp (itchiness and flaky scalp) and used Eucerin DermoCapillaire shampoo and in particular the leave-in treatment. This has totally cleared up all the itchiness, I'm so grateful something worked for me.

LoniceraJaponica · 29/01/2019 08:09

Nizoral shampoo

tubspreciousthings · 31/01/2019 10:04

No nits! I think scratching is definitely a stress-related thing, it's actually a bit better today. I use aveda shampoo and it's usually good but not really helped this time around.

I really need a haircut but don't want to go with an irritated scalp!

I have been using Living Proof shampoo and conditioner and my scalp has greatly improved. I find this time of year awful.on my scalp. I get itchy and create scabs. Eek. But a scab itch free zone at the moment!

teta · 31/01/2019 12:12

The only thing that works for me is Nizoral.

Hazeintheclouds · 31/01/2019 13:06

Vosene

ArkAtEee · 31/01/2019 17:52

I use Philip Kingsley itchy flakey scalp too. M&S do a sample size if you want to try it.

fiorentina · 31/01/2019 22:07

I had similar recently and have found Body shop ginger shampoo really helped and calmed it down.

bobstersmum · 31/01/2019 22:11

The best thing for my scalp when it's very itchy is alphosyl. It feels soothing even while shampooing, it smells very strong though not for me it's the only thing that's ever helped.

OrigamiZoo · 31/01/2019 22:27

T-Gel shampoo and Take an anti-histamine!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/01/2019 22:52

My scalp can have its ill-timed flare-up moments ( psoriasis )
Body Shop Ginger Shampoo then the Ginger Conditioner really calms it . (I didn't like the shampoo at all until I tried it with the conditioner )

tubspreciousthings · 01/02/2019 00:15

Thanks all - lots of things to try! I tried vosene the other day and didn't help. I've ordered some ginger shampoo as I've heard good things about it. Let's see what works!
