Half Tucked in Top

I admit I'm not fashionable but I do like reading things on this thread.

What is it with top tucked in tummy & then loose everywhere else ? I noticed it in M&S website, JL website, lots of magazine pics - what is the theory ? For me my wobbly tummy is my worst but (of many) & I think if I tried this look it would really draw attention to this part of me.

Looking forward to being enlightened, TIA.

I think it looks effortless when done well, and like you're on your way to detention if done badly. Unfortunately, I'm quite slim but have a pot belly so it does nothing for me.

LizzieSiddal · 28/01/2019 22:26

“Yup G cup and size 8/10 here - I do it with pretty much everything so I have something of a waist-“

Same here, plus I’m short, so if I don’t do the half tuck, I look like a ball. I dont have the height for a full tuck in, so half and half is perfect.

I like the half in half out look and usually wear my shirts and blouses like it. I don't have have a flabby tummy so not sure honest looks if you're a bit chubby round the middle.

I do this. Didn't realise it was a 'thing' let alone have a name.

SallieSallow · 29/01/2019 16:12

It looked ridiculous on me and more of a wardrobe malfunction than a fashion choice. I think it's more suited to those with big boobs and a small bottom half, which is completely the opposite of me! I usually wear quite fitted tops and don't go in for floaty skirts or wide legged trousers, so my clothes don't really adapt well to the look either.

hendricksy · 30/01/2019 20:43

I always do it and have done for years but I'm cool.. innit 🤷‍♀️😂

BeaLola · 31/01/2019 00:15

Wow thank you for all the replies - don't feel so daft for asking now.

I am going to give it a whirl - the thing is having read the replies how do I do a good French tuck so it looks effortless - I may need a lot of practice !

It gives you a more defined silhouette. I tend to wear mid rise or high rise jeans and a floaty or loose top makes me look quite fat as my thighs are quite big. By tucking in abit at the waist it defines my waist, as opposed to looking like the same width from my shoulders all the way down to my knees! Tucking all the way around it high maintenance as it can come untucked easily and if you are wearing quite tight pants/skirt it can be hard to tuck all the way without it showing as lumps.

CosyToast · 31/01/2019 10:04

I've always done it, I'm short so otherwise tops cut in at the widest part of my thighs! Half tuck is great, hides my bum a bit at the back and doesn't give me miniature legs

frenchonion · 31/01/2019 10:11

I did this and my DP's 12 year old rolled her eyes, tutted in a 'what are you like?!' type way and untucked me the way a mum would sort out a child's clothing. I haven't tucked since Grin

Butterfly84 · 31/01/2019 10:17

I didn't know this was such a trendy thing to do. At school, all the girls would do this with their P.E uniform.

MikeUniformMike · 31/01/2019 15:32

It's the look of a man who's just been for a dump and forgotten to tuck his shirt in properly.

Boyskeepswinging · 31/01/2019 15:57

Oh Mike you know I'm going to be thinking this every time I see it now Smile

DontCallMeCharlotte · 31/01/2019 18:03

I always thought it looked achingly try-hard until I did it accidentally after a "comfort break" Wink last week. It makes a massive difference - in a really good way. I'm sticking with it.

Processedpea · 31/01/2019 18:07

Been doing it for years too didn't know it had a name ;/

AltogetherAndrews · 31/01/2019 18:17

So what’s it called if you tuck in at one side only, at the hip? I do this, as there is no way I am exposing my belly, but look hourglass from the front, and this avoids completely swamping me.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/02/2019 22:21

I think it looks really silly, but then it takes me a while to get used to any new fashion. I hated skinny jeans at the beginning. I like them now that they're going out of fashion.

CremeDeSudo · 04/02/2019 12:41

Well since this thread I've been inspired to give this another go but have added a belt to my jeans which seems to make all the difference! DH gave me a funny look this morning, turned out he was admiring my 'look' today! Big thumbs up from me Wink

dudsville · 04/02/2019 20:21

I'm off to Google for inspiration. I have tried this but i felt silly doing it, like I'm trying too hard to appear casually disheveled. Now that it has a name and is A Thing i shall embrace it!

NigellasGuest · 04/02/2019 21:14

Definitely adds interest IMO

Llareggub · 04/02/2019 21:19

I'm pretty sure I first noticed this on Brad Pitt in thelma and Louise and so I have had a thing for it on men ever since. I tried it with my new top today and just looked a bit scruffy.

ForOldLandsEye · 04/02/2019 22:21

I do this but it feels ridiculous. Im an inverted triangle/apple shape, quite slim and 5’6” but I feel it expises my worst part - i.e. my belly. not tucking makes me look frumpy/pregnant though. It feels so ... scruffy. Grin
