Help needed with party dress

I have a 40th birthday party to go to and need help finding something to wear. I have no style and no clue!!
I am quite small, 5’4” and size 8 however I am 50 and all the nice little black dresses I see are so short. At my age I would look dreadful, but neither do I want something frumpy and mumsy as I am very young at heart....

Karen Millen has lots of nice dresses (they are not cheap) or maybe have a nosy in Monsoon? Difficult to suggest a dress as really need to try on and see how colour & cut suit etc x
