Black dress for wedding guest

I've got a wedding early March and have a gorgeous black dress I'd like to wear but not sure if it's acceptable or how to accessorise without buying new shoes, bag & accessories! It's very plain fitted (think classic lbd below the knee) . Would leopard print heels and red bag/funky necklace be really dated? Any other suggestions?

If it's a more traditional wedding then no to black. If it's registry and pub on the cheap type thing then I'm sure you will be fine in black.

We’ve been to quite a number of weddings in the last couple of years and plenty of women wear black dresses and add colourful accessories.
Men wear dark suits so why should we be restricted by the colours we wear.

I think black is fine, but go with bright accessories to avoid looking either funerial or as though you've just stopped by on your way home from the office.

Black is fine if you dress it up with coloured accessories.

I wore black as mother of the groom tho I did funk it up with colour. Looked great.

I always thought it was wearing green at a wedding that was unlucky. I think the days of particular colours are over - black is fine as long as you funk it up

Black at a wedding means you disapprove of the marriage.

I think black's fine if brightened up with a colour. On mumsnet I've read:

No green-unlucky
No black- unlucky/rude
No navy- too close to black
No cream/white/beige/nude- too bridal
No pale pink/pastels- too bridesmaidy
No red- too attention seeking
No animal prints- inappropriate

Please add any if I've missed a fashion clanger. It's madness!

My dm wore a black dress with a red wrap and shoes to my (winter) wedding and looked fab!

How ridiculous to all of the above. It's 2019?! The only thing you cant wear to a wedding is a bridal gown unless you're the bride.

Honestly, it's bollocks - that's why I put a winky-face. It's the only superstition I've heard of about what not to wear (apart from the MN Rules of Wedding Attire), but it is just that: superstition.

Just looked it up, according to this particular page (which also had a poem including the quite ridiculous line "Marry in brown you'll live out of town") it says this about pearls:

"To some, pearls represent future tears and are a bad sign. However, to others, the wearing of pearls takes the place of the bride's real tears, thus she'll have a happy, tear-free wedded life." See? Complete tosh.

(I wore two pearl necklaces for my wedding - and no, that's not a euphamism)
