Cracked lips just won't go away. Help!

I've been suffering from badly cracked, dry lips for the last year and I'm out of ideas. The rest of my skin is fine so don't think it's dehydration.

So far (with little success) I've tried:

• Nuxe Reve de meil
• Lanolips Lemonaid treatment
• Elizabeth Arden 8 hour balm
• Blistex relief cream
• Vaseline
• Lansinoh nipple cream
• Carmex yellow pot
• Burts Bees lip balm

Has anyone tried anything else that's worked for them?

I'm not an expert but do you think it might be caused by something lacking in your diet? A deficiency of some kind. Just a suggestion seeing as you have tried a gamut of lip products.

You've tried everything I would have suggested as a lip balm junkie As PP has said, I'd maybe look at your diet - do you take any supplements at the moment?

Have you changed toothpastes or anything else that come into contact with your lips?

I can't use facewashes, took me years to work it out. Now I use plain soap and the problem is gone! Orange juice and vinegar can cause problems as well but now I know I'm careful with them and alone they are not enough to end up with cracked bleeding gums.

An allergy? Maybe to something you're eating or putting on your face like a moisturiser. Have you been put on any new meds this last year?

I've heard this could be caused by a vitamin B deficiency, worth a try?

Agree with PPs. You’ve tried lots of good products already. Worth a trip to the GP if it’s been going on this long. Must be really miserable for you, hope it gets sorted soon.

I agree with looking into what might be causing it, but for me I love the Nivea blue pot. It's been rescuing my lips all winter!

Blisteze medicated is a lifesaver for me in the winter.

O'Keefe's lip repair, in a little orange stick. I, like you, had been searching and searching, and stumbled upon this a few weeks ago. It's bloody magic. £3 ish in Sainsbury.

Thanks everyone I'll give some of these a try in the short term and I'll ask the docs at my next appointment if anything else is causing it.

I was on skin meds last that didn't agree with me so I stopped them and tried changimg my diet instead so maybe I am deficient in something.

Do you use Oral B toothpaste?
A number of people have found to caused problems with their lips - google for info.

Id love to know the miracle cure too as I can never seem to heal it fully. Changing to a SLS free toothpaste, a layer of sudocrem every night and some salve every 20 mins is the only thing that sort of eases the pain but never found any one thing to work properly.

Rub your lips with your toothbrush when brushing your teeth, it will remove chapped skin. Labello - dark blue one, is excellent.

Recommendation for O'Keefes here too! I got a set from boots for £14 with the lip salve, hand cream and foot cream. All fantastic

Is it all over your lips or cracked in to the corners?

I had the corners almost split, they were so cracked and sore. I tried everything and it just got worse, spreading across my lips.

I saw a doctor and they said it could be fungal. I was given caneston with hydrocortisone, which cleared it up in 2-3 days.

Maybe go totally cold turkey on the lipbalm? Use nothing on your lips?

Funnily enough, the GP couldn’t help me and it was only when I switched to a new dentist that finally diagnosed - I didn’t even mention it as I’d given up and she picked up on it.

I've had a dry bottom lip for over we months, think it might possibly be something to do with the perimenopause and fluctuation in hormones (Im 49). No advice sorry I've tried all the usual balms. Burts bees is about the best i can afford.

I see you haven't listed Lypsyl. It's excellent.
