Going to an overseas wedding this summer, and the area will be late 20's to early 30's. I'm 5ft 8, size 16. Hoping to be a 12-14 by the time the wedding comes round.

Love the look of this dress but worried I will be too hot in it: www.silkfred.com/boutiques/girl-in-mind/clothing/joanna-wrap-lace-batwing-midi-dress-emerald-green
However, its so bloomin cold here, I can't remember what being hot is!!

Yes IMO you will. I’ve seen heaps of overseas weddings in hotels in Crete and Cyprus and the thing that always amazes me us that the wedding party still dresses as though for a wedding here.

Think about what you would wear on an evening on your holiday. Buy a glamouroys version of that and add jewellery, flower in your hair and pretty sandals. In one fell swoop you’ll nail it.

Lovely dress
But why are you buying now if you are changing (or hoping to) your size?

RomaineCalm · 20/01/2019 22:35

It's lovely but yes, I suspect it will be too hot and sticky for a summer wedding.

Wait a couple of months until the summer stuff arrives in the shops. I would also look for a lovely summery dress with nice sandals.

runwithme · 20/01/2019 22:42

Not looking at buying now, just seeing what's out there at the moment.
Thanks for the reply, I figured it was probably too close -something flowing is probably what I need. Just don't want anything that makes me look like a walking tent!
Will wait for the summer stuff to hit the shops. And for the weight to hopefully fall off!

Yes you will!

I live somewhere with similar temperatures to your wedding destination, and although some people who have lived here and acclimatised would be able to wear that dress, most people would end up a hot sticky mess if they tried to

You need something in natural materials as much as possible (cotton rather than linen, to avoid crumpling), and light and flowing. Maxi dresses are popular for a reason, and if it's properly fitted at the top it needn't be a complete tent / make you look 6 months pregnant. A relaxed fit jumpsuit might also work too - I've seen lots of people wearing those here recently

Butterfly84 · 20/01/2019 22:48

That's really nice but not appropriate for an abroad summer wedding and yep, you would be too hot.

I wouldn't buy anything until maybe a month before. And go for something more loose fitting with some more summery colours.

Its polyester. You'll be a ball of sweat in it.

TheClitterati · 20/01/2019 23:11

Agree you
Need to avoid polyester in those temperatures. You need natural fabrics.
