Lightweight, fitted puffa-type jacket

MrsSpenserGregson · 20/01/2019 12:34

I need a lightweight, fitted, quilted puffa-y jacket. The fitted part is very important as I'm size 6 and look ridiculous in big baggy coats that don't have a waist. This is the sort of thing I'm after but less bulky..... can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Price-wise I'd prefer something under £70 but will pay up to £150 for the right jacket if I have to.

would something like this work? link all the best x

Potplant2 · 20/01/2019 12:46

Uniqlo’s ultra light down range?

MrsSpenserGregson · 20/01/2019 12:54

Ah, forgot to say - I want a hood!

I love the Joules Gosway/Gosforth jackets but they are a bit pricey for what I had in mind.

I looked at the Uniqlo ultra light down range last night but it doesn't look like it has a waist ... they look straight up and down in the photos....?? Do you own one @Potplant2?

North Face?

LIZS · 20/01/2019 12:57

Try esprit online. They have a range of fits, colours and warmth ratings.

SorrelForbes · 20/01/2019 12:59

MrsSpenserGregson · 20/01/2019 13:03

I’ve got one of these ordinary ones (they also come with a hood) and I love it.

I’m a 12-14 and I find the large fits me perfectly, it seems flatteringly fitted and I get loads of compliments. That said, I’ve never had much of a waist anyway (I’m a sort of tank/straight down from ribs to hips sort of shape). It’s also more of a mid layer than a top layer jacket, which I think is what you might be after? Perhaps this one, though I haven’t tried it so can’t say:

I have had a different style of uniqlo down top coat and have to share I didn’t find it that warm, was a bit disappointed really. One good thing is that uniqlo has a good returns policy so you only really risk one postage cost trying things out. They also do a size XXS in many styles, which I think would be a 6.

Or there’s Lands End? They’ve got a good sale on at at the moment. But I think they start at a size 8 and tend to size generously so probably not for you.

MrsSpenserGregson · 20/01/2019 14:45

Those Uniqlo jackets look great so I might order one as the returns policy is so good Smile so thanks for that - your info on sizing is really useful Flowers

I could, in all honesty, tailor any jacket that I ultimately buy - I run a tailoring business! - but I never get around to altering my own stuff as I'm always too busy working on clients' orders...! And down-filled jackets are a right old faff to alter, as the feathers get everywhere.

I'll look at Lands End too. I used to love browsing their catalogues back in the days when I still bought the Sunday newspapers and you'd get all the free catalogues with them. I have at least six jackets in various online shopping carts at the moment...!

Try zara they had them with hoods

evilharpy · 20/01/2019 23:24

I quite like the look of this one from Fat Face.

They have it in a 6 although FF sizing can be on the big side, it has a hood and rolls up into a little bag. Great reviews too.

I just got this one , fitted and lightweight

quince2figs · 21/01/2019 17:31

I know there are many more expensive versions, but I have found this very reasonably priced jacket to be great. Well made, sturdy zip and really very warm. So light that it’s easy to roll up and put in bag. So cheap I keep one as winter emergency in car boot. Can’t go wrong for £12!

I dislike fitted coats, which the women’s version definitely is, so I went for the men’s instead. Smallest is a size 8, but I would say they run slightly small.

These are amazing jackets...super super light and lovely fit

HildaZelda · 21/01/2019 20:01

Primark have these at the moment. I've seen lots of different colours in my local store.

Another vote for Uniqlo! I haven’t stopped wearing my ultra light jacket I got for a Christmas, it’s so comfortable.

MrsSpenserGregson · 22/01/2019 17:01

You are all ace!!!! Thank you Flowers

I still haven't bought a coat Grin

I can't decide which one(s) to order. I like loads of them!!

There is an absolutely amazing one on TKMAxx website I didn't even know TKMaxx HAD a website ffs which popped up after I looked at the Karen Millen one recommended by @SorrelForbes but I'm struggling to justify the cost......

I really like the look of the £12 jacket and might order it in two different colours actually, and keep one in the car...!

This is the one I'm debating with myself over. It would really help me if someone else could buy it, therefore solving the dilemma for me...!!

I really like the Rooster one, they are incredibly light.

However, I appreciate you may not want something that is so obviously sailing gear!!

LunaDeet · 22/01/2019 17:12

My coat is similar to what you are looking for. It’s by Sun Valley, a french brand. It’s honestly the best coat I’ve ever had. I’m a 10 and have a small so XS would fit you.

www.sun-valley.com/en/65-nouveautes

In my opinion a £12 coat isn’t going to keep you warm.

fenneltea · 22/01/2019 17:18

Rab microlight are lovely jackets and are fitted and have a hood, can usually pick small sizes up in the sales.

pinkhousesarebest · 22/01/2019 17:23

Jott are good. My D.C.'s have them, as coat refuseniks, and they say they are warm enough to ski in.

madmumofteens · 22/01/2019 17:31

Got a Rab Nebula Pro Jacket for Christmas it is brilliant and cosy and fits great I'm a chunky size 12 and doesn't make me look chunkier.
