How to improve my nails?

My nails are flaky, breaky and weak, although quite fast growing, and I’m not sure how to get them into better condition. I moisturise regularly, I eat healthily and take a daily multi vitamin and mineral. Has anyone else had nails like this?

Pantothenic Acid aka vitamin B5 sold in Holland Barrett. Amazing. Better than biotin for me.

Did you have gel nails before as this happened to mine after having gel nails 3 times? It's 3 months since I last had them done and they're slowly starting to improve.

Nail/cuticle oil.
I make my own with jojoba, vitamin E, avocado and grapeseed oil.

My nails were so weak that I could fold them over onto my fingertips.
Now I have to file them down regularly and I work in a warehouse so I'm always at risk of breakage!

Oil your cuticles as much as possible and let it sit for as long as possible before massaging it into your skin, cuticles and nail.

Cuticle oil and Perfect Formula nail coat. It worked better for me than Nail Envy, but you do have to apply it exactly as it says on the bottle.

My nails were like this when I was painting them regularly - I took a 3 month break and left them bare and they recovered. I now try to paint them only about once a month and they are still fine.

I would quite like to try the O’Keefe’s working hands hand remedy because the foot cream from the same range is extraordinarily good. Not a very nice texture/sticky feel (and I have heard people complain the same about the hand cream) but you could put it on at night and wash off any residue when you wake up.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Or do you get them wet very often?

AtHomeInFrance · 20/01/2019 19:20

You could be describing my nails which, although normally very good, a flaking and splitting terribly at the moment. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be?

Dermymc · 20/01/2019 19:23

Sounds like my nails. Any ideas what it could be? Mine were fine until I had a child!

Try Emtrix, it is advertised as a fungal nail treatment but it really does improve the appearance of the nail. Easy to use, just dab it on.

CND Solar Oil Nail and Cuticle Conditioner

Barry m iron Mani, when mine are playing up I use this to get them back into shape.

I haven’t had gel nails for over a year and I don’t often paint them (mainly because I don’t want to make them worse!) I do wash them quite a lot...maybe nail oil is the way to go. I will also try vitamin b5.
Thank you for all your suggestions!

I used to have nails like that but since I've started taking cod liver oil for other reasons, they've improved.
