Biker Leather Coat - how should it fit?

Just ordered a lovely biker on sale, I went for a 12 as I have a stone of baby weight to lose (mainly from the boob area). Do people wear there’s done up or undone? I want it to look quite fitted but also like the idea of wearing it over jumpers.

My mum says you shouldn't buy a coat or jacket unless you can do it up.

These days I don't think it matters too much!

If it's a fashion accessory rather than for functional use, I would always buy a size lower than I am and wear it opened.

I think your mum is generally right but I feel bikers are kind of the exception.

Bubelage can mean you need a massive size to go around the boobs and it's loose on the waist, shoulders, arms. You're not buying it to go on a motorbike I'm presuming, so it's more of a fashion Item. I'd buy a size lower and look good. I would never put a biker jacket over a jumper though.

my worry is I will want a 10 if its not closed but no way will the 10 do up.

Well, it's a fashion item, so it doesn't need to do up. They're not the best for the cold to be honest, unless they seal up on a bike. Depends what you want it for.

I know most people wouldn't dream of doing up a leather biker jacket but I like to do mine up particularly on cold days. Left open makes me feel enormous.

no motorbikes & yes bubelage always ruins things 😭. Attached an image of the jumper style I would wear.

Maybe I should also order the 10 & compare them.

I don't do mine up so have sized down

Sizing down might not work though if you're wanting a jumper underneath

CoffeeTableBook · 19/01/2019 20:33

I think the jacket in that picture looks too big on the model!

Ellapaella · 20/01/2019 14:26

I don't do mine up and like a slightly smaller fit as I think it looks better. Biker jackets can look very bulky around the shoulders, personally I think they need to be quite a snug fit.
Although I don't do mine up I can - but I am very flat chested, I think if I had a more ample boobage I wouldn't be able to.

evilharpy · 20/01/2019 18:51

I think they need to be very fitted. I’ve lost quite a lot of weight recently and mine now fits like the one on the model and I think it’s far too big.

hammeringinmyhead · 20/01/2019 19:53

You buy the size that has shoulder seams that fit at the end of your shoulders. The 12 might do up but if the shoulder seams are more onto your upper arm it will look too big undone.

”You buy the size that has shoulder seams that fit at the end of your shoulders.”

This. It’s all very well everyone saying size down, but if that means it doesn’t fit your shoulders it will be obvious you’re trying to squeeze into a size too small.

I rarely do mine up, but I can if it’s very chilly or something.
