Perking up hair in the transition to grey

I'm 37 and stopped dying my hair about 9 months ago- it's a chin length blunt bob, and probably about 20% grey, - more underneath where I have big streaks of silver and more salt and pepper on top. I stopped as my hair was pulling loads of orange colour when I dyed- 'hot roots'- no matter how ashy the colour and toner, and was starting to look a bit rubbish.

The 'natural colour' that's emerged is a light brown with honey streaks (quite nice actually, I wish I'd stopped dying it years ago) with still an inch or 2 of bleached mousey ends from the dye (it used to by dyed a mid-dark brown).

It just feels a bit bleurgh at the moment- in-between, and I'd actually like it MORE grey and like a deliberate choice- but I don't really want to bleach it again and damage it too much.

Do you think putting a semi platinum dye like this: www.colourculture.co.uk/adore-semi-permanent-hair-colour-platinum-150 would work and get picked up by the blonder bits?

I suppose it doesn't matter really as it's a wash out- but any other ideas for managing the transition that don't involve pricey hairdresser visits? I have little natural beauty to rely on! Waiting for more grey is going to take some years...
