Dying a red dress?

myotherbagisgucci · 17/01/2019 09:28

I bought this dress ages ago as a spur of the moment purchase, it looks orange in the picture but it's definitely bright red.

My DH and I are going out next month for our anniversary and I'd love to wear it, especially as I'll be 36 weeks pregnant and not much else fits.

Problem is, red really isn't my colour.

Does anyone know how or if I can dye this dress either dark blue or black?

Dye well

Unfortunately I can't return it, it's 94% polyester and 6% elastane.

Check the fabric and check Dylon's website for advice on what fabrics take dye well. I've done lots of stuff over the years although mainly cotton. I quite often re-dye black clothes that have gone a bit grey for a new lease of life.

It won’t dye as its polyester I’m afraid. The Dylan dyes only work on cotton wool, viscose

Oh bugger, I think I'll put it on EBay then and try and get something else.

Thanks everyone for your help! Smile
