My teen nieces are going with school tomorrow. Its theur first time in a sephora so they are very excited —until they see the prices— I noticed they now have a Target near Macys and i remember whitening toothpaste used to be a good buy im wondering what else is good from the drugstores that you cant get here? For a teen not me!

It’s only a small Target iirc... think Tesco express. So choice might be limited. Bargain shopping in the USA is usually better when the exchange rate is working in your favour.
NYC however, is home to some of the best thrift shops if you have the time and inclination, that’s where I took my teen in the summer. We found some great stuff- unworn with store labels on too...

They wont have time its meant to be an educational trip 😀 im sure it went into a basement and was quite big. Not a supermarket like ours thiugh. I dont think they really have them in Manhatten.

Surely they want a drug store if it’s cosmetics they’re after?

Lol oh shit sorry just read your post properly. Any American make up brand like Maybelline will be loads cheaper - although I get that it might not be quite as exciting as Sephora.

Fantababy · 13/01/2019 22:50

I got Burt's Bees lip shimmer quite a bit cheaper than here.

The Target opposite Macys doesnt have as much as Duane Reid etc but its not bad and its generally cheaper than the drugstores. The rule of thumb is that american brands are cheaper. Don't buy European brands.

American brands like Maybelline are on a par cost wise with the UK (especially with the exchange rate atm!) the annoying thing about drug store makeup purchases is there are no testers available and you can't open the packages or you WILL get shouted at (I bore the brunt of a security guard's ire Grin)

Big tubs of Advil painkillers

What about toothpaste and deodorant? I used to remember them being better?

My teen bought lots of Eos lip balms in a drug store....they were about $2 but are about £6 in urban outfitters. Also face masks and kawaii type brands were cheaper in NY. Tony Moly I think is the brand.

EachandEveryone · 14/01/2019 17:11

I don’t think Eos is in now

Depends what sort of deodorant you want - its mainly stick / rollon and not many brands do sprays.

Toothpaste is the same (imo) Sephora might actually be a good trip for them - they do stock cheaper (relatively...) brands and also a ton of travel sizes of big names, which makes it a lot more affordable. They also do really well priced decent face masks and stuff

EachandEveryone · 14/01/2019 18:01

I’m really getting Envy
