If you work in an office and wear boots...

What trousers do you wear? Office is smart casual and no jeans. In my old office I could wear skinny black jeans with boots and nice tops. New job where I can't wear black skinny jeans but I prefer wearing boots to shoes.

Is there no tidy way to wear boots and trousers that is smart enough to wear with boots? I'm a bit rubbish with fashion and styling but I'm trying to dress better.

Skinny black trousers?

TrackerBar · 12/01/2019 21:29

I wear the Rafi (sp?) leggings from All Saints with skirt bit built in or leggings with a skirt or tunic top.

hugoagogo · 12/01/2019 21:29

What kind of boots do you wear?
I wear lace up ankle boots and slightly short, slightly tapered trousers like these?

hugoagogo · 12/01/2019 21:31

Oh shit, i don't work in an office.Blush

Satchell · 12/01/2019 21:35

I have the same problem, and wear my ankle boots with dresses and tights.
I can't find a skinny trouser I like for work at all.

museumum · 12/01/2019 21:35

I don’t understand the issue. Boots and trousers is just normal isn’t it? How is it any different from jeans? I’ve got wide trousers and slim trousers and wear both with the same boots I wear with black jeans.

ThreeFish · 12/01/2019 21:36

I wear boots. I just pair them with “suit” trousers in the workwear ranges and nice tops. Jacket only for the more important meetings. Usually cardi or jumper in the winter.

mimibunz · 12/01/2019 21:38

Sure. Just go to the M&S or John Lewis websites and look for what you have in mind. Then copy it. It’s very easy to find a nice pair of slim trousers to pair with ankle boots.

MsSquiz · 12/01/2019 21:41

When I worked in an office (until last November) I wore these from Dorothy Perkins. I have them in grey, navy and black. I would wear them with ankle boots in exactly the same wear I wear jeans with them.

homebirds · 12/01/2019 21:50

I wear dresses and knee length stretch fabric boots pretty much every day.

Swiftier · 12/01/2019 23:10

I wear skinny trousers and ankle boots, I think wider legged/cropped trousers look nice with heeled boots but I almost always wear flats.

WineNotTea · 12/01/2019 23:28

Ankle boots, bright socks and 7/8 trousers. It’s my uniform and I love it!

There was another thread recently asking about socks and I’m ashamed to say that I mostly wear my hubbys socks!

To add, my boots are block heels as I’m a bit too Max Wall in flats.

WineNotTea · 12/01/2019 23:32

Tops wise I am a knitwear Queen! Skinny ribs are my go to, eitther stripes or plains and with a thin scarf. Only ever in shades of grey, blue, pink or bright red.

CountFosco · 12/01/2019 23:44

Gap and Boden are popular on here. Or M&S (I'm liking the peg leg trousers) or John Lewis have a wide selection.

Potplant2 · 13/01/2019 05:43

I wear these all the time with knee high flat boots over them. Or occasionally ankle boots or brogues:

backinaminute · 13/01/2019 05:51

This is a good thread as I have the same issue. I like ankle grazer trousers with flats but not at this time of year as they look better with loafers or brogues on me. I've worn skirts/dresses with opaque tights with flat ankle boots since it's been colder.

I really like those Dotty P trousers, think I might order some. I had some similar from Mint Velvet and loved them but they were pricey and didn't last very well, so loathe to spend too much.

I agree that for any trouser that isn't tight round the ankle you need a heel and I can't be bothered with that on a day to day basis.

jessstan2 · 13/01/2019 05:51

I only wore boots outside, would change into shoes when in office. Cannot imagine wearing a pair of boots all day, can't be hygienic to have your feet so 'enclosed' for many hours, for a start! We did have a dress code though. Not strict but no jeans, no visible tattoos, midriffs or excessive piercings and were supposed to be reasonably smart and well groomed. There was still room for individuality and we all looked good.

CountFosco · 13/01/2019 09:09

jessstan2 I don't think the OP is suggesting wearing wellies all day in the office! I've never had a problem wearing leather ankle boots like chelsea boots to work in a smart casual environment. They don't enclose your foot much more than a pair of flat laceups and your feet can breath through the leather anyway. And I hate having hot feet.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/01/2019 09:10

I have some really nice 3/4 length wide legged trousers. They look good with boots.

flingingmelon · 13/01/2019 09:18

To avoid the weird ankle crash situation I go with skirts and dresses. Especially love it when when the boot is higher than the hem...

Processedpea · 13/01/2019 09:22

I wear uniqlo wool blend and pull on trousers with boots

JaceLancs · 13/01/2019 09:56

I wear skinny trousers with ankle boots
Dresses and skirts with any kind of boots
I wear a lot of sweater dresses for work
I have some leggings that look like corduroy and they look ok with knee length boots

Gwenhwyfar · 13/01/2019 22:47

"can't be hygienic to have your feet so 'enclosed' for many hours"

What? It's not unhygienic to wear boots? I wear boots all winter because I'd be too cold otherwise.

hugoagogo · 14/01/2019 08:34

Crikey wearing boots is unhygienic now? Hmm
Only if you haven't got socks on maybe?
